Well myloter friends,
what I have observed all these 5+ months stay at mylot is that this site comprises all the continents but not all the countries. There are people from Philipines, Malaysia, China, and one fourth population from India, Canada, US, Ireland, England, Scotland, Hungary, Holland, Switzerland and a few more European country and there are countries from Africa and all. But to my consternation till date I have not seen a single mylotter from one European country which is adjacent to England.
Can you tell me the reason why there are no mylotters from that particular country?
could guess which European country I am talking of?

I think there are many reasons
First, if we suppose Mylot is a small reflection of the whole world. The population proportion is as the real world. The there should be most Chinese, many Indian and sure Asian will be the most. On the other hand, European are less here because Europeans a less in the real world.
Second, Not every European knows English. Because they are rich, there is no need to learn English as a tool to make money. Besides, because European languages have some commonsense there is no need to know English so well to understand English when necessary, for example, finding a toilet. The word toilet is same in both French and English.
Third, many people come here for money. But European are wealthy, there is no need to earn money here. In fact, it is not a good deal to earn Dollars here.
So, it's hard to find a European here. I believe they seldom come here for fun, and neither for money.

Accepted that the Europeans are rich, does this equate to justify that they remain segregated from the rest of the world? Is not this an irony that the concept of global village got its birth there only and now if they all push themselves into their own cocoon and groove, how the international fraternity would advance.
I know many Europeans do not know English and this does not mean that those who are non native English speakers are paupers and think that only English would bring them bread? Think about the China. Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world. What they need from the Europe and America that they are keen on learning English?
And as you are emphasizing Europe's being the rich country do you think all those here at mylot are after the $10 that for that they are here and learning English? Let the French people too come and show their zeal of fraternity or they should stop rivalry with England.

I am sorry but I don't mean English/French rivalry.
I am learning French now and I found many English and French words are similar. Just like Chinese and Japanese. I can hold the general meaning of Japanese through I had never learn it and I believe Frenchman can understand the English meaning( or Englishman can understand French, only by reading) so maybe they think they need not to learn English first. This is only my guess.
I don't have any hostility or bad meaning in my response. It is only my view of this. If I made you angry. I am really sorry.

I am looking at the world map now and am trying to fit in all the jigsaw puzzles. The most likely country maybe France? I have not come across frenchmen or women in here. Sometimes language is the main stumbling block that prevent them from showing up here. Not that we from the Asian continent are better off in our English but they have strong patriotism to their own national language thus making them handicap in the English language. I can be wrong?

You are 100% right. France is the country and neither you nor me have seen a soul from there. But do you think this is true patriotism? English is no longer the language of the English people, it is the International language now. Hence in such condition if the Russian and the French men block them who would be th loser?

The thrill is gone you have revealed the answer. Should have waited for more responses to come before letting the cat out. Never mind since I am the first respondent I deserve to get your quicky comment. I think banning a foreign language from being taught in schools or for public use is all political motivated. I say this because our country heads have made a blunder of changing the teaching mode from English to our national language in all schools though they do have English as a subject. But it is not enough and most of our graduates are handicap in their spoken or written English. They lose confidence when they seek for employment as they can't interact well in English. The close minded political leaders are to be blamed for the poor command of English in all level of society in my country. They forgot that English is so important in today's world as without the mastery of this language, one can not advance further in parallel with the advanced western countries.

Years ago the French had ambitions to make French the worlds international language, and at one time it was seen as such. For example, it was the language of diplomacy for a long time. However, that's no longer the case, and thats really put the French noses out of joint.
The fact is, French does not have the flexibility, adapability and ease of learning that English does. It is much easier to make yourself understood with a limited knowledge of English than it is with with a limited knowlege of French.
I remember once asking an Italian girl who was fluent in both French and English, which of the two it was easier to learn, and without hesitation she said that English was much easier to learn than French.

Oh so French has this reputation of being "different"?actually, this maybe out of topic but I read from yahoo news that French nationals, according to one survey, are not good tourists and have hard time relating to other nationals, they gave very small tips to tourist guides, waiters, etc. I was a little surprised because I always regarded French as wonderful and France is very romantic and spectacular country and everybody dreamed to visit this majestic country because of its rich history.
Anyway, I want to learn French and Italian.hehehe. French and English are the two official languages of the United Nations. I am surprised again because I don't think half of the population of United Nations members know how to speak French, but then again, that's it.

Not that I can recall. I don't see many people from France online. There was one on Yuwie, but she was Indonesian, married to a French man. And there was one on Multiply, but he sent so many annoying things that I deleted him. Other than that, I can't think of anybody on any site.

Hello krajibg, England is actually an island and the only adjacent countries are Scotland and Wales, France is not an adjacent country. The French are naturally a proud nation and proud of their language. Anyone visiting France should at least know how to greet and thank in that language, the same goes for anyone visiting any country. If a French person visited England how many English people would be able to respond in French. As English becomes the second language of many foreign countries it allows us English not to have to bother learning other languages and most get by in a foreign country by depending on the people of that country to speak English, if they don't they just speak louder being sure they will then be understood. I am sure the mylotters on here who are learning English as a second language would be glad to converse with other English speakers. In the meantime my son is learning French as one of his languages at school.

Hi there,
by adjacent I separated the water lol.
You have a strong points. To be proud on ones nation is one thing and being flexible to the outsider is another. If the English would not know how to greet a French man how can we think of it. But personally i like to listen the language

Hi! Krajibg!
I think people from European countries have other important business to do, rather than mylotting, therefore, there number is less here.. Nonetheless, I've come across few members from UK, yet I did not find them very active.

Hello there,
I am from the Philippines and I log in here in myLot on daily basis. I am looking also for some European country members, I never stumbled anyone. Well, it dawned in my mind, maybe they have other undertakings to do than spending time here in mylot. I am hoping there are European members here who are active because I love Europe and want to learn more about their continent, the magic and charm that comprises their land and the monarchy that really fascinated me.
Maybe they are busy with their lives.lol!

Hello my friend Rajib Ji,

May be people of those countries have better things to do. The people of the countries which you have mentioned use the Internet more than the people of other countries to earn money. May be thats the reason. I think people from other countries will soon join Mylot once the hear about it.

Are you sure there are none whatsoever? I have seen just about every corner of the globe represented on myLot. Is there a list somewhere of all the countries represented by myLot members?

Asians like Philippines, India and Malaysia have excellent English skills so it's no surprise for us. I myself came from the Philippines. The citizens of European countries have higher income so they won't need to post in mylot that much.
