Piggybanks anyone?

The only way I can save some cash is to put some coins (small ones) in a piggybank. I started doing it after reading a post here at mylot. A mylotter saved pennies in a jarand went to change them once a year, for Christmas. It was enough to buy presents for everyone. I said WOW!!! and bought a piggybank in one of my vacations. It is small, so I put coins (US $0.50 equivalent) when I have them. Then there´s a jar for the smaller coins and another that is called "change" and is the money to buy eggs and such. But the piggybank money has grownAnd I have changed the coins to bills. It really adds up.
Do you have a piggybank or a jar to put coins? Do you have a means to save change? What do you do with it? My savings are all for vacations.
Luck and happy posting!!!

I have both a piggy bank and a jar to keep change. Before my daughter was born I only had the jar. I used the money that I had in the change jar to pay a few bills when money got tight. It really helps a lot when you have that extra money, and you don't realize how much you have until you count it. And every time so far I have had much more than expected. Now I have a piggy bank to save up money for my daughter.

Hi friend,
AS you know, I´m always dreaming of vacations. This year I won´t have anymore because I went twice last year. But who knows, maybe next year I´ll show up at your doorstep. One of my best friends lives in the United States and I could plan a round trip. Do you still have Greyhounds? Years ago, it was an unexpensive way to travel through the US.

We don't have a piggybank, just a jar. When it gets mostly full of coins, I take it to the bank and make a deposit.

I do that with some coins ( in fact I use them to buy small things nearby. But the biggest coins of our currency (worth a little under a dollar) I put them in my piggybank and save it for my vacations along with my online earnings and some money I get from using my credit card.

I save the cans from all the soda my family drink. You don't notice it but when it starts to pile up in your backyard you can cash it and get some good money.

My husband and I have a piggybank where we put our coins. We are going to spend the money on our vacation in September/October. The other day we talked about the piggybank and how much money we had been able to save so far. I suggested we count the coins, but at first we both tried to guess how much money the piggybank contained. My husband thought that there were about $45, and I thought that there were around $50. We counted the coins, and it turned out that we were both wrong, because the piggybank contained about $180! That was a really nice surprice

We are going to travel around in Europe for one month, and we plan on buying interrail tickets, because that is cheaper than flying, and we get to see a lot of different places that way. We will start in Germany, and after that we are going to Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. If we have enogh time we would like to take a ferry from Greece to Italy and visit Switzerland and Austria as well.

Congratulations! I love my piggybank for the same reason. One tends to thinkk that coins don´t amount to much but they always give nice surprises. I have several ways of saving for vacations. I feel that I can use my imagination to be more frugal in rainy days, but vacations are a must. I need to feel rich once a year. So my online earnings are kept at paypal (save for extreme needs) and there´s also the piggybank..
Where are you going?

I need to get a piggy bank again. I had one when I was younger. My sister was in a few states away and she called me one day and said can I have the money you left here in your piggy bank? I didn't think there was much in there so I said yeah I don't care I'm not there to use it anyway. She calls me the next day and says, thanks for the $75 you gave me.
I was like what, you gotta be kidding me!
I love having a piggy bank and I have to get one again =)

I have a very small piggy bank so I put there the biggest coins in our country´s currency (about $1 each). When I need change I open the piggy bank and change some coins for a bill. When it is too full, I take out the bills and put them in my waist purse I only use for traveling. I have about $100 in bills now after a few months.

I have a small plastic canvas house where I put found money. Other than that, I spend my coins... keeps from breaking so many bills and that saves money for me. I have a savings account where I add money every payday and a money market account that is funded by rewards programs, too.

I do. I have a jug and I put my change in it all year and during the summer I cash it in and my daughter and I decide what we want to do with it. One year we took a little vacation and stayed in a hotel on the beach. That was awesome. The past few years we have to be a bit more practical. A good portion of it goes to help buy her some clothes and things for school and we may go on a day trip somewhere. It does add up. I will pick up pennies and I work in a store and so many people will say, keep the change. I try to tell them they should save it but some will say they hate dealing with change. It adds up more than some people realize.

It is not a piggybank it is a jar with no lid. I will put all the chage I might have or find laying around the house or in the street. I have used it to buy things to eat or to helo pay a bill but it those not work for ke anymore. When ever the ice cream van passes in front of my house my daughter will get some change to buy stuff and also is she goues to the store with someone she will get change from the jar. So to try save money with change is not possible and I really don't like to hide it from her I feal bad so I try to actually use the change I might have in my purs when I go to the store.

I'm still using a cowie bank to save money (both bills and coins) at this time. To be honest that i tend to used up my money whenever i get hungry, bored, craving over something and end up empty-handed. But i have to try harder this time and never give up!

Maybe you should have a jar and SEAL it. So that to open it you have to break it. That would help you think twice. Many times it´s not worth it to give in to cravings. I´m addict to chocolate so I never buy it. Once a friend told me why didn´t I buy some to have when I REALLY craved for it. I had to explain that I can´t "put away" a piece of chocolate.

I have a coin bank where i put my change every day. I started having that because its kind of bulky to carry and it clatters on my bag. It kinda embarassing when I try to run to work, lol. Last time I've checked it and wow it has grown a lot.

I have a big coke bottle bank, I have been filling it for years. My husband says I will never fill it so now I have to! I also have a small house shape bank that I put quarters in. That is almost full but it money for a rainy day. It has been slower to get it full because now most of my change goes to my 3 year old daughter. She is already a good little saver. She gets excited to find change on the ground and will carry it in her pocket all day and put it in her piggy when we get home. She acutally has two piggies. One for dollars or bills and one for coins. The dollar bank gets filled by her grandpas. I have emptied it a few times and put it in her bank account so she will earn a little bit of interest. The bank also has a program that after 10 depoists they depoist $5 in to the account. We have reached that once as it is a new program. I hope that she uses this money for something really fun one day as right now she really doesn't understand what it is for or how much she really has. I have no idea what I will do with my coke bank if I ever get it filled!

I have used many things from mason jars to those huge 5 gallon water jugs. I fill up the mason jars quicker. I am still working on filling up the water jug! It does add up if you don't snitch from it to use elsewhere.
