Is It Too Late?

Hello mylot, I have been having many depressing thoughts lately about the fact that we are all going to die. I am really worried about the planet Earth, and the problems here increase day by day. I have been thinking lately, and I was just wondering, is it too late to save humanity from itself? War, Poverty, and greed are basically the main killers, but also the environment, Every day, the signs are getting stronger that Earth does not want us anymore. More and more things are starting to malfunction, is it too late. The populations have tripled in the last few years, and no one is worried about anything. World governments do not care about anything except money. Companies are too busy making profits than trying to save humanity. I live in an urban area and see pollution through my eyes and what its doing to everything. I do not know whether i am going to live my fullest, or is humanity going to be extinct before the end of the century. I just want to face a natural death, not one that occurs because of humanity's faults. I believe that that Earth is going to be a wasteland soon because of humanity's wasteful usage. We product so much garbage everyday that I think that the Earth is going to be covered in it soon. We only recycle a minute percent of it. I mean America only recycles a minute percentage of it. The rest of the world does not care, and keeps going with its wasteful tactics. I really want to make a difference, but I am just one of the 6.7 billion people who will be destroyed by my wasteful ways. Thanks for listening.

For the sake of all other life, I hope we are destroyed within the century. However as a human I think that our ability to adapt will bring us through. I think that you have pulled up an interesting thing when you say is it too late to save us from ourselves. I think it is because those with power and money want to keep it because that's what society demands and those without are just brushed away. There are also going to be WAY too many people for us to handle in a very short time... we need to restrain our population. sorry, that's a little jumbled but I hope you get the points.

Do your best to stay GREEN!! There are forces at work beyond those of man. One day children will just have to clean their rooms.

Hello, Newbie, and welcome to the Lot! It's certainly not too late. More and more people are realizing the importance of going green and, on an enormous scale. As long as it continues to take on more and more importance, we humans, in all our innovative ways, will find ways to overcome the huge problems we made...

But has the damage inflicted not been devastating? We produce so much plastic everyday, but all of that does not get recycled, and it goes into landfills, and directly and indirectly kills everything. The trends show that in the past 300 years, population has grown exponentially, and so have species' extinctions' after the human race started on its destructive path. The trends show that CO2 emmissions are growing by the minute, and soon there will be too much CO2 in the air. I have subscribed to Popular Science magazine and have seen that the Western countries are tying to stop this, and a lot of innovations are being made America, Iceland, and other European countries, but what about the rest of the world, the 90 percent of the worlds population in Asia, and Africa have no clue of any of this, and continue fighting over nothing, and not paying attention to the planet. Us Americans are doing something, but the others are not.

At least in the US, all these problems have been addressed to a great extent. Individuals must become activists and demand that each country clean up all they can, and make changes in favor of the environment. Unfortunately, it can be quite costly, but what isn't?
