Do you still go to libraries to read?

I am fond of reading literature books and during those time when I was still studying, I buzz on all the libraries within our area and sometimes go to places where there were great libraries. But now that I have a family of my own and work at the same time, I stopped going to these places. Although, I have a mini-library at my home and now that internet almost carry everything of my interests, I still sometimes crave to re-enter a library and just be there and read as much as I can.
Do you also have the same feeling? What books would you like to read on libraries?

I havent been to a library in a long time, in fact it was last year about this time and it was for their booksale. I will be going again on the 18th of this month and cant wait. Meanwhile I have my own library of books and about 1000 (not kidding) to read in my bedroom bookshelf. Yes I love reading!

Oh I envy you and hope you can share the experience to us after the 18th. We too have lots of books (but not of course a thousand else it will consume a big part of our house lols!) and would you believe I also have shelves in my toilet. We (me and my husband) also read on our 'idle moment' sitting in the toilet bowl hahaha!
Thanks Ithink. :-)

I live in Michigan (USA) and we have a fantastic library system. If you are looking for a particular book and can't find it in your local library, your library is hooked into all the libraries in the state including universities through the internet. When you get a library card, you also have an account on the internet if you like for free.
There is no longer any late fees except sometimes on DVDs and Videos, you are clearly warned of this when checking out. All books are late fee free. I love to go on the internet at home at my leisure, look up what is of interest, and then place a hold on an item. When the item comes into my local library, I get an email informing me of the arrival. So, with a hectic schedule, I can pop into the library, pick up my held items marked for me alphabetically on the hold shelf, check out electronically, and I'm on my way. This month I am working on SEOs and blogging books. I love to quietly read at the library but if time does not permit, I now have an ongoing stack of library books sitting next to my chair.

Wow! What a very systematic library you have in there. In here, we still have that old-fashioned libraries, but I'm sure with the onset of the technology and internet there must be some kind of automation also. I haven't been to one for such a long time, thus I miss the old-library experience. I just hope it is still the same as it is when I was studying. I don't mind going into the ticklers of the card catalogues and bins looking for authors and book titles hahaha!
Nice one sysdexlicwriter. :-)

I also loved going through the old card catalogs and looking for books. I really was not happy when the library changed to computer. I have adjusted to all the changes over the years. We can always count on change in life and I notice a lot of older people really grow old when they do not want to roll with the changes anymore.
We still have the physical library with soft reading chairs and tables and chairs. We also have a computer lab where they are teaching the latest software programs for free. We can go in and use the most up-to-date programs for free for up to three hours per day. I love it. Also, there are many e-books in our library to just check out and then read on line. I am still learning how to do that part.

I do like to go to the library to pick up a book or two. I went to the library to learn some sign language when I started my new job since my client does some of it from time to time. I love the library, if there is a author that I am unsure of i will check out a book by them from the library. That saves me some money lol.

When i was at school, i always at libraries, doing researches and reading a greek literature. I just fascinates greek story and thier literature.
But after school, i have my own family, i don't go anymore at library. When i love to read the book, i just need to buy it so i can read it anytime i want.
I still love going to libraries, not only because of the books but i love the environment. SO peace and quite!

That was very true rainmark. The library is a cozy place conducive to reading because of its peace and quiet atmosphere.

when i was a child, i love going to the libraries and read all the books i can read there in my free time. it started when i was 7, our school had this very big library with lots of books, and i always stay there during our free time and.
when we moved to another place, and our new school have no library, it was a bit sad because i love reading so much. the next part in my life where i was able to visit a library was when i was in college.
now, here in my place there is no library, if there was i would surely go there in my free time and read whatever i can find interesting. i would always prefer a book over reading in the internet. pages in my fingertips... i just love that.

Me too, I work and live in a place where there were no libraries nearby thus I tend to just read ebooks and those that I bought and picked up from the mall bookstores. How I wish and crave for a library where I can drop by and just sit on a shelf corner and indulge reading an interesting book.
Thanks jayrene and happy reading. :-)

Yes i do. In our university, the librarians were so snobbish that traumatized me to go back there. Besides, we have the internet and we too have our small library here. Library method is also confusing. The numbers associated with each book, the sections and too high bookshelves!

hahaha! I have the same dilemma when I was still studying. But there is this one tall samaritan who helped me reach an unreachable book and he later married me after 6 years!
thanks koalapenguin. :-)

I go to the City library here once in a while. It has an excellent collection of books, those to read for pleasure and those related to business and technical fields. Besides, there are magazines for the general public. I like to drop by once in while to browse through the books, and to sit down and glance through some of the magazines of the month. That's just refreshing and relaxing !

Some of my best memories of my childhood are the great times I had in the local public library and all the books I brought home from there. I was lucky to have a mom that really encouraged me to read when I was young. In college, I spent a good portion of my time on campus buried in the library too...it was much larger than my town's public library and I could find books on all sorts of topics there. Now, though, I must admit I go to the library a lot less. I have a lot of my own books (and am often getting more) and the Internet helps satisfy a lot of my knowledge cravings. Studying at home is a lot more convenient than going to the library -- there's no dress or noise code to worry about, and you don't have to waste time traveling. If it weren't for the Internet, though, I bet I'd be spending much of my free time in the library. Libraries are still fantastic resources for sure.

Don't you have that craving or missing the atmosphere of the library? I do and although there is the internet nowadays for which much of our info needs can be read, I still feel and miss the library days.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us echomonster. :-)

Rarely, because I can research stuff and read articles and magazines through the internet. But if there's something important to read, I have to go to the library. Right now I am into self study (writing)so I have to go to the library to borrow books.

Well it's a good experience reading books in the library and I'm sure it will help you a lot in writing as well as enjoy reading them there.

I still go to the library not only to read but also to study as well. To be honest though that the library that i went there often which i've mention is the college library at my university and it's one of my favorite hangouts.

Yeah me too during my schooldays. Instead of going to some place or gossiping with my girlfriends (lols!), I prefer to stay reading books in the library. I must admit that even nowadays, there are some things the internet cannot offer and I'm sure the libraries have them. Especially those archive books on literature and news events.
Thanks Solitudefreelancer. :-)

Yea, I kinda have that same feeling. Even though I have a lot of good books at home, I still enjoy going to the library from time to time because of the calm atmosphere. It just puts you in a mood to settle down and open a good book. I actually thought that since I could get most of the information I wanted from the internet that I would stop going to the library all together, but I guess I was wrong in my assumption

Right, it's as if that whenever I read, even at home, I would like to think I am reading a book in a library the way I used to read books when I was still studying. The feeling still lingers with all the new aged reading environment we have.
Thanks DavinciRed. :-)

I believe so. There is still this part of me longing for those old ways I did when I was still a schoolgirl just reading and passing time inside the library surrounded by tons of books I wanted to read and read and read. Thanks liuchen. :)

I grew up in a small New England town, and libraries were very different than they are here in the city. When I was a kid, I remember spending hours and hours in the library, and never getting bored. Part of that was because my parents both worked a lot, and they tended to drop us off at the library when they couldn't afford a babysitter. But also, it was my safe place. It was the one place I knew everyone else was a geek like me, and no one would make fun of me. Now, though, when I go to the library, it's big and echo-ey and strange. So I still check out books but I tend to read at home.

Why do some people think that those who are fond of libraries are geeks! I also hear that from my son who said he just wanted to read books at our home library rather than the school library because his classmates think he was some kinda geek. I told him not to be cooed off by these classmates of him and just do enjoy the library in his school to experience something that they were missing. So as to boost his eagerness to libraries, I told him to befriend a classmate who has the same passion as he has and he did find not only one but five of them. And the best thing of all was that he was able to live with what he likes best.
Continue your passion for reading surveygeeek and here's a cheer to us who loves libraries! Thanks. :-)
