no i won't do that to lose weight. and if you want to lose weight through "cleansing diet" i would suggest to ask your doctor first. it might affect your health if you do it without the doctors approva. there are lots of ways to lose weight. and if im not mistaken eventhough you're fasting you'll still eat. though not the usual meal you have everyday. :)

Dear Runejoker,
Fasting really implies a spiritual experience where-in one abnigates oneself of proper meals. In my country, there are several refrains on fasting. If you follow some, you essentailly cleanse your mind and body of several ills.
What you have implied and querried is fasting to lose weight. If you are physically without any ailments, then better way to lose weight is to develop a suitable exercise regimen, be selective in what you eat, eat less but balanced diet and do yoga regularly.
I keep fast one day a week and only take some fruits during the day and a simple meal in the evening. It is refreshing and I do not end up losing weight; I do not intend to lose weight by such a fast.
May I thereby suggest, that please try to consult some weght loss expert, and develop your own style of eating and exercising. Why punish yourself for no reason. Of course unless you are a movie star and want to shed weght and get a media mileage for so doing, like one of India's top female actress did recently.

I think fasting is only for religios reasons. Other than that reason I believe that is called anerexia. I don't think I would ever fast because when I'm hungary I get major headaches and I just have to have something to eat or I'll get really grumpy. And the answer to your first question is no, because that could be very dangerous for you health.

I only go for fasting when i have a general health check up. But if you are losing weight, fasting wont really help you.
First of all when you want to burn calories, you need fuel in your body so your metabolism will work better. This means that you need to eat breakfast, " eat like a king, they said. You need the heavy breakfast meal to start up your metabolism working better.
Second, you can eat small portion of lunch and dinner, but you got to remember that you eat when your hungry. It is highly advisable to have fruits ready for every snack. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses a day to flush those toxins out, cleansing your system.
Exercise to tone your body, losing weight can make the skin sag so make sure you have physical activity to tone and strengthen your muscles. Go for aerobic which strengthens your heart and make your your digestive system works perfect.
Happy mylotting and smile always!

Fasting..Just doesn't make sense. As numerous people have pointed out to you, it back-fires. The serious deprivation of calories & nutrients might cause you to lose a lot of weight right off the bat, but then again - you have to worry about your body going into "starvation mode" - where it slows down your metabolism to the point where you're not losing weight anymore. And your body also holds onto fat when you don't eat. And plus, when you decide to quit fasting, because your metabolism is so screwed up at this point - when you start eating solid foods, you'll most likely gain the weight back, quicker than you lost it, I'm sure.
I think ONE or TWO days are OK, as people are perfectly healthy and do it for religious or spiritual purposes - but any more than that I wouldn't suggest. Perhaps if you want to de-toxify or jump-start your REAL diet, then sure. But even the whole "detoxify" thing is pretty much a myth. Our bodies naturally de-toxify what we eat, drink, and injest. That's what our bodies DO. If you have a working liver, colon, and kidney (and various other parts that help with this process), you don't have to worry about de-toxifying. Our bodies do that for us (assuming all of our organs work). The thing about it is that it's really not going to get you any closer to your goal.

I'm not an expert on weight loss, but I've heard that not eating anything can make your body go into like survival mode, so it burns less fat. If you want to fast, I think a juice fast would be good... you'd get nutrients, so your body wouldn't go into that mode, but you should be able to lose some weight. I've heard it can be a good cleanse, too. If you want to do that, you should do research on it first, just to make sure it's safe for you.
I've thought about doing a juice fast, not for weight, but for the cleansing thing, but I'm not sure my body would allow me to do that :P

Okay, I searched for fasting and losing weight. Doesn't sound very good:
"The appeal is that [fasting] is quick, but it is quick fluid loss, not substantial weight loss," says Madelyn Fernstrom
"If it's easy off, it will come back quickly" -- as soon as you start eating normally again
"Fasting is not a weight loss tool. Fasting slows your metabolic rate down so your diet from before the fast is even more fattening after you fast,"

Sorry I am late responding to this. I just found the discussion. I hope you see this!
If you are thinking of fasting to lose weight, then listening to a lot of "I've heard"s and "I think"s and "I believe"s is not very scientific. I suggest you check out the website of Brad Pilon, who has studied fasting for (I think) 15 years -- a long time, anyway. He has written a book called "Eat Stop Eat" and although I didn't buy it, I did get enough from the website (http://www.eatstopeat.com/) to apply his teachings and I got very good results from it.
I hope the site is helpful. For one thing, it exposes as a myth about fasting slowing down the metabolism. (Long term fasting is another matter -- Brad suggests fasting two days (non-consecutive days!) per week. The fact that you are eating normally for 2-3 days between each fast day prevents your body from slowing down in its use of food.
Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this in detail :-)
