First get a biter bitter detterent spray for the dog not to bite off their hairs. second keep them cool by giving them a bath regularly if possoible daily then from time to time give them a cold soak towel bath. Shampoo with Tea Tree Extract is good but the best herbal medicine was the use of Madre Cacao or St Vincents plum Tree extract. goto http://stuartxchange.com/kakawati.html the leaves are ground using a mortar and pestle and the juice extract is generously dub on the hotspots and let it dry then give the dog a bath. Our shitzu was cured in hotspots in 2weeks time and her balding spots grew hairs again

The best way is to consult your vet about that. We should not give medicine easily without consultation from the experts.

Try cool baths, they also make a treatment for it that I saw at the local Tractor Supply. I have not tried it because our boy prefers to just play in the water and that has eased his itching.
