I just found a few pictures of these amazing sand scupltures and wanted to share them with you. The first one is shown below and I'll attach more to any replies I get. How unbelievable is this? I've seen some pretty decent sandcastles in my time, but this is phenomenal! They surely must use some kind of liquid cement or something that sets hard to make it stay like that?
Have you ever seen anything like this for real? Were you able to see if they used anything special with the sand? Do they use moulds or is it all freehand?

I did watch a show about Sand sculpture in the Discovery Channel some time back and the intricacies are just unbelievable! I stayed dazed for a while. Recently, my friend introduced me to the amazing world of Sand art. Are you familiar? Its just about sand, shadow and your hands and ofcourse the creativity and the artist in you! I just cannot get enough of it. Here's one such link:

Indeed amazing! Te Sand sculpture is just so amazing! I guess, they are cemented by the natural actions of sand, water, salt, air, nature over the years. Some are as hard as stones! On the contrary, its hard to make history out of sand art. We cannot capture creativity. With every shaking the art goes off. Its ephemeral art form with eternal creativity!

What an amazing video! This just goes to show that artistic skill can arise from the most unexpected things! This looks like it would be a lot of fun to try too. In a way, it's kind of like a giant "etch a sketch" and you can then shake it all off and restart when you're done! lol. Thanks for sharing that mimpi and here's another sand sculpture:

I say they probably use a assortment of molds and freehand. It is amazing and art. And your right all the details they have in the art is amazing. If they used some type of glue with the mixture of sand then maybe it would last longer and not crumble so soon after making. A non-toxic glue though..But I guess it is fun making different ones all the time..and just start over if it gets messed up. Yes, they should start some sand art where your at right now since it doesn't rain much .but then the heat would make them crumble also.

From one of the responses above, it seems that all they use is seawater and beach sand! That's amazing really because I would've thought that some sort of agent would be used to hold it all together too. Apparently not! I have no idea whether they use moulds or not though? Here's another sand sculpture pic:

Those are some awesome photos of the the sand art. I actually commented on the photos all of them before I commented to the discussion. But thanks for bringing them to our attention and letting us be able to view these great sand arts.

I haven't seen any sand sculptures for real either. Not unless you count some great sand castles! It would certainly make it even far more amazing if there were no moulds involved and it was all by hand. All I do know so far is that no cement is used at all and it's nothing but sand and sea water! Here's the last sand sculpture picture I have:

When i lived in Weymouth (Dorset UK) there used to be a man who did amazing sand sculptures, some of which he painted over. I have a feeling that his son took over but its been a while since I went down there. People used to stand on the prom and watch him. He had a big box that people threw money at... and a bell would ring if the coins went in.

Thank goodness you responded yok, because for some reason my picture didn't attach when I posted and it was left off the discussion. Just sand and sea water? Wow, that makes it even more amazing then! Here's one of the sculptures that was supposed to attach before:

They are pretty amazing. Thank GOD somebody responded. lol
No I have never seen anything like this in person, but occasionally I get some sent to me via e-mail and some of them are really incredible. Also the ice sculptures they do in Harbin, China in the winter (the summer ones don't last long haha).

I've seen some of these ice sculpture pics before too and they sure are amazing as well! I considered running an ice sculpture exhibition here in Cairo, but I figured that people probably wouldn't be too keen on paying admission to see something that would last all of 3 minutes.

I have seen a few sand sculptures for real. I have even watched them being put together and carved. Molds are not normally used for the ones that you have shown. Just a lot of imagination and sculpting tools and sponges. It is a fascinating to watch. And, it is very time consuming, as you can imagine.

Wow! I hope I get the chance to see it being done for real one day too. So no moulds are used at all? It makes it even MORE amazing to realise this then and the people that sculpt them are unbelievably talented! It must be kinda sad to see them eventually fall apart in the end too.

I would think that they know going in that the piece is not going to be permanent. That is why there are always lots of cameras at these things. At least they have those to show.

I would love to be present at one of these contest. To watch them work and see it all come together. Sand sculptures are awesome and the time and detail put into them is amazing.

we live in a country full of beaches. white sand and clear beaches. but i haven't seen one like those sand sculptures that you have put in here. i do hope someday i could get the chance to see one as gorgeous and wonderful as this pictures. maybe they do use some liquid cement or anything so that the sculptures wont be destroyed that easily, right? are you eager to see one out too? because i do.

I've always lived near the beach in Australia too, but never have I seen sand sculptures like these being done! It must be amazing to walk through them all once they've finished. Apparently there's NO cement used at all and it's only sewater and sand. Unbelievable! They don't stay standing for long, but what a statement!
