Does anybody know the BEST way to get quality graphics for an ebook image?

Does anyone know how to do this? I have already had a go at making my own book cover image, but I really think it needs a professional touch? I am not sure if I should do this on my own or if I need someone to help me? I don't have Photoshop so I downloaded something called GIMP. Has anyone heard of it? I find this difficult to use and I am sure I could make something better. Any help on this one would be much appreciated guys, thanks.

I have seen some ebook cover-making tools and I might have a few in my computer but I don't write ebooks and I have found no need to use them. I do not like Photoshop and other graphic tools. There are some people who are naturally gifted with graphics but I am not one of them.
