How is it that we can You can remove a person's heart, replace it with a donor's heart, and the person will remain as he was prior to the surgery. Many internal organs can be replaced. And still, we continue to love the same people, the same hobbies, and the same foods.
Now if a person goes through some bad experiences be it a mental, an emotional or a physical trauma they are never the same. The physical body hasn't changed, or perhaps the change is unseen to the naked eye. I find it amazing that you can change the insides of a person yet they stay the same, but when something happens to them - triggered by an outside force - they are totally changed.
To say that alot happens to a each one of us in the course of our lives is an understatement. But one thing is for sure, the person we are today is not the person we once were.
So who are you? I like to think that I am forever working on me. Evolving and growing and trying to be the best person I can be. .
So .. who are you?

I believe in soul, so when you change the body, soul remains, but emotional things change the soul, it's the same soul, but it just learns things and while learning it changes.
I try to take every negative thing and turn it into something positive. I learn from my mistakes and try my best to help others.

I'm still trying to understand myself. Everyday, I discovered something new about myself. I think its important to learn and know about one self so that not only you able to understand your ownself, but also, to love yourself. how you can love yourself if you don't know yourself and thus do not accepting myself. Before I hate myself because of my weaknesses, but now, i can cahnge and improve my weaknesses by accepting myself and love. I cannot accept people to love myself if me myself don't love my ownself.

You're right, people can replace body parts. Let it be inside or out. Person never change of what they truly are. I'm a very loving person and I believe my mom and her word of wisdom. I will always be a truthful person to all around me!

I think your observation "I find it amazing that you can change the insides of the person yet they stay the same, but when something happens to them - triggered by an outside force - they are totally changed" a bit problematic. For one, there was a confusion on the where the change took place and how it was done. For example, frontal lobotomy, which was a favorite cure for some mental disorders long past qualifies as "something that was changed inside the person" (which actually changed his mental disposition). So it is not always the case that only "outside forces trigger changes in a person's mental state, given my example.
But giving the most charitable interpretation to your observation, I could just say that the seat of the human soul is actually one of the greatest debates in philosophy. "Where is the soul located" or "Do we really have a soul" has been discussed over and over again, the details of which I cannot really share because of space limitation and of non-competence in the in-and-outs of the arguments thereof. I only believe that the brain holds much or has a higher probability of containing it due to piling evidences of psychology. But I might be wrong.

where is the space limitation? Thank you for attempting to give me a charitable interpretation. . . i didnt know charity was given out here or even that I was asking for some.
You think that the soul is located in the brain?
I wish you would expound on this for I really do not understand the point you are trying to make . ..

That's interesting because I actually heard many times the topic of people getting heart surgery and coming back 'out' of surgery with characteristics of the person who gave them their heart. I do not necessarily know if its common but its common enough where all doctors are aware that it happens. I always thought this subject was fascinating but its hard to find books about it and anyone who can give me some titles I'd love to check em out. Still, it is a pretty scary thing for families who have actually had to experience this because its like your suddenly living among a stranger, how chilling, like the story I remember is a older couple who came out of heart surgery who was a normal man, very tolerant and peaceful but once he got back home he sudden started having huge violent outburst.

Who are you...........
Hi there saw2207, I am a person with heart, brain, blood, veins, tears, pain, joy and even some shame. I even have a name. I have determination to be the best person that I can be also. So therefore I like to consider myself a work in process. I don't believe that a person's heart can be transplanted into another person and the person would remain totally the same. They are still going to have to try to sale me on that one. I believe that we are each totally unique individuals and that what's in your body was specifically meant and purposed for you and vice versa what's in my body was meant for me. If I decide to donate my organs to someone else, it would be a nice gesture to do. But then that means that person would have a part of me and i don't really know if my religion would allow me to believe that it's the right thing to do. I'm a mother, sister, friend, aunt, neighbor and cousin of others too. I am a US citizen and I think it's okay living here but I do wish that we could all figure out the answer to some of our problems rather than becoming dependent upon the governemen, Happy mylot.

I am a spiritual being trapped in a physical body. I am learning all the secrets of the universe. This physical world aids my teacher in teaching me my lessons. At any given point in time, I am at a specific place. If I were not trapped by this physical body, that would not be the case.

thank you bird123 for sharing ..
I too am a spiritual being. . and as Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said it so eloquently in this quote . .
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
he was quite the visionary .as a French Jesuit, paleontologist, biologist, and philosopher, who spent the bulk of his life trying to integrate religious experience with natural science, most specifically Christian theology with theories of evolution.
Interesting to also note that his mother was the great grandniece of Francois-Marie Arouet, more popularly known as Voltaire.

I think you are same as what you have ago.
The thing changed is the heart that replace from
your body. I know ourself was man by our higher
thinking which os head over heart not heart over head.
We do an action first through thinking bfore applying
the heart so its normal for me to have same as usual.
The new to me is that the effect after the operation
and pain of it .
So we cannot know what happen next in our life.
We will keep on doing gooddeeds and everything so
that nothing will happen to us someday.

Well put saw2207 when you write about evolving and growing and trying to be the best person you can be. Yes we will never be the same all true our lifes because each experience makes us different it those not matter if it was good or bad. But we have to try our best to be better and happy and we also have to lurn how to use the negative experiences to be better. Most of us might be mean and angry at the world because we had some bad experiences in our lifes but it only makes us feal worst. I also try to be better and I'm trying to learn on how to be patient with others and how to forgive others and my self for any bad experiences that might happen. But at the end I think I am a carring person that loves to care for others even if there are times that I do not know how to show it.

Hi desteny114,
reading what you wrote made me think of 2 of my favorite quotes . .
Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish."
~ John Quincy Adams
"In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us."
~ Flora Edwards
I think even if you think that you do not how to show your love and care .. I have a feeling you do in your way . .and the more aware that you are that maybe others need a bit more from you . .shows that you are on the right path
thanks for sharing
lotting to you

I like you would like to think that I am always chaging for the better! I do not think that I am ever the best that I can possibly be! I don't think that anyone ever is. Everyone can always improve aspects of thier lives. I try to experience as many things as possible to try to learn as much about myself as possible.
As I told my friend the other day "You have to know exactly what you don't want to be, to truly know who you want to be."
