What is your favorite part of this historic document? ---- We hold these truths to be self evident. That all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain and unalienable Rights - That among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men. Deriving their just powers from the concent of the Governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the RIGHT of the people to alter or to abolish it. and to institute new Government, laying its foundations on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. - - - now list yours.

My favorite part is: "That they are endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights..." Some years back, I learned from a commentary by Chuck Colson that "unalienable rights" are rights that are yours whether you want them or not. They can neither be taken from you, nor can you give them away. I believe all of these rights come from God and no government can take them from us without breaking God's law.

Many people in the United States want to remove God from public life, arguing that the mention of God and the Creator in relation to our government somehow violates their Constitutional rights. However, the Constitution guarantees us freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Our government cannot (easily) take away certain rights because we have already acknowledged that these rights were granted by a higher power. If we remove God from the process, who is granting us our rights? The government? In addition, the concept of holding our leaders accountable for their actions has its roots in the Bible; in ancient Israel, even the great King David was held accountable to God.

I like the Declaration as a whole, though my favorite part is probably the list of grievances against King George. It shows why many Americans were upset enough to revolt against their government.

That is a nice part. Myself, I enjoy the prose.
