Anyone read this book?
I started reading it yesterday when a friend mentioned that there is a movie coming out based on it. And when I first glanced at it I was like Whoa...I'll wait for the movie. The book is long....and then I began reading it to get the feel of it...I could not put it down. It jumps back and forth in sections of time and has only two main characters as narrators. Henry, the time traveler, and his wife, Clare.
I am no where near the middle of the book, but I am addicted to it. Not only because it is interesting, but also because it mentions Chicago so much in it that I feel the city, smell the city and feel at home. I have not been there for over 9 years and I miss it dearly compared to the South sometimes. So just the fact that this author could spark that in a reader who is familiar is wonderful.
Have you ever felt connected to a book because it sparked that good, down home feeling in you? Or stirred up some sensory thought about a place you've been to?

I have never heard of this book.. but I love books dealing with the characters and time travel... can you tell me the basics of the story? What is the theme of the story, (other than time travel), why does he go back in time and when is current time, etc.... Don't tell me the "good" stuff.. just enough to know if I want to give it a try.

Okay here it is....The novel is written in the voice of two of the main characters...the time traveler (Henry) and the time traveler's wife (Clare).
It's a back and forth thing throughout the novel jumping from past to present. And when he travels he can see himself at the "present" age. In other words he's kinda like his own doppleganger...you know double. And honestly I cannot tell you more. It will give some of the REALLY good stuff away.

Idon't want to know all the details.. but why is he back and forth in time... which time era...what is his reason for jumping back and forth? Why just him and not his wife? Is he trying to solve a mystery, find something, etc? I have in the past, picked up a book recommended.. and it wasn't worth the money I spent... that why I ask for more details.. I can't afford to waste money. It just sounds odd, with only 2 characters and if it is in a time or for a reason that doesn't interest me....

Okay this I will say...he has a condition caused by a DNA mutation that causes this to happen to him. I didn't buy the book. I got mine from the good ole public library. And I am not into time travel stuff. Afterwards it made me think about a lot of things...it's not a mystery it's a love story. And a very nicely done one in this style.
I can't praise the author enough.

I have never read this book but I will now put it on my list to read. It sounds good.
By the way, I always read the book before watching the movie. It is usually better. I feel you get to know the characters better when reading a book.

Same here....but once I found out it was the chick who played in the notebook I could not help but visualize her as the wife....Now I wish I knew what Henry looks like...he sounds like a hot Librarian...LOL

Tell me about it. My eyes hurt, I think I am dehydrated and now I am deep in thought....started it last Sunday and finished it today. Awesome read for anyone. Hope they don't muck it up with the movie.

Be prepared if you get the book....it's a biggie, but oddly enough one of the fastest reads I have ever read.....
It's a beautiful story what can I say.

I'm midway through the book and frankly it's one of the most interesting novels I've read about time travel. For one, though the premise is one of speculative fiction, it blended seamlessly with a romantic story without diluting the concept or undermining the premise. it's now on the running as one of the best books I've read, hope the movie does it justice.

Finished it this morning...and I was barely halfway through it yesterday. It's funny I got it for a friend who was on a wiat list at another library and began to read it....so she was pressuring me to finish...not that she had it...it's really good.
ANd it's quite obvious how literature has inspired the author (maybe even real life things) as the prose is scattered throughout it. And it's impressive how as a reader you think you'll get lost at first, but she keeps you attentive.
She did a agreat job. Definitely on my list of books to refer.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I felt the same way when I first read it, that I just couldn't bear to put it down. Even now, when I think about it, I get excited and want to read it again. Wait until you get to the end, it only gets better.
Also, I usually hate when they make movies of my favorite books, but in this case, I'm kind of excited. That's one movie I will definitely go see.

I know. I not only get excited because it was well done, but it makes me feel the feeling I had when I lived in the Chicago area years ago.
And I cried because as any avid reader can do they can read where it is going....but it was well done.
But there is only one thing I noticed that was inconsistent, but I won't put it on here in case others are reading it. it's a minor detail, but still it gives things away.....And I am dying to ask anyone who has read it to maybe figure if it was a mistake or not.....
