Hi Koreilly, I have tried acupuncture before. In fact a few times, the last to reduce backpain.
In fact the needles does not go to the back, they poked the needles on my legs. Based on the theory that all parts of body are linked by nerves, so they kind of release the pressure on the nerves to relieve pain.
There is slight pain when the needles go in, and when they pull the needles out. I can't really feel the effect at the time in the clinic, but i notice the effect of acupucture for the next two days after the session. The pain still there, but not as severe.
I'm not sure about the cost in your area. I went to the public clinic, almost a free clinic supported by charity, so the cost was really low, less than the cost of a meal in McDonald's.

I have not personally done it, but my son has done acupressure for his food allergies, and it worked for him. My mother also swears by it. You have to mentally believe in it for it to work though. If you are skeptical it can block it. My mom says the needles don't hurt at all. I think she pays about $40 a session, so it's not too bad. I dont think most insurance companies will cover it, but sometimes if you have a flex card they will cover it.
