Hermit Crabs Should NOT be Pets

So, I got a hermit crab a couple weeks ago. At first I thought it was cool. I got a container for it, a little house, rocks for it to walk on, food, and a water bowl. It's home was complete! So then I put the hermit crab inside, and GUESS WHAT. NOTHING. The crab crawled around and inspected it's new environment, and then proceeded to sit inside of it's house motionless for long periods of time. It is the most boring pet in the world. After a week of having the hermit crab, I realized that these things were never meant to be pets. They were meant to live peacefully in their own habitats, where although the chance of death was much higher, the crab would at least be where it was supposed to be. I wish I never got this hermit crab. Because of this insignificant experience, I will never allow my future children to get one. I also recommend others not to buy these creatures. All they will do is slowly rot away inside of a plastic container..

You obviously were a terrible pet owner and did not take care of your crab correctly. Crabs need more than a little container to live in. They need more than one crab in an environment, they are sociable creatures. They don't need rocks, they need sand. They need more than one type of water, a fresh and a salt water source. That is what happens when you do not research a pet before you decide to get one and then care for the pet improperly.
