I am on my third night in a row of being unable to sleep normally! This has been happening off and on for the past couple weeks now... Nothing seems to work for me except to sit up until I am so tired I can't take it anymore! Right now its 12:48pm and I am WIDE awake! I should be asleep as I have to get up and drive about 40 minutes one way to work plus I have to now drive an additional 30 minutes or so to take my two young children to their sitter! I am so frustrated with this that I can't stand it anymore! Mainly because TV is really awful at this time of night!

You are not alone! There are times when I'm so sleepy and yet couldn't sleep. I was given a valium but it didn't work. That was a one time thing and I realized sleeping should come naturally. If I can't sleep, I might as well do something productive. I guess, I'm a vampire with no fangs....and not blood-sucking creature either. lol! We are the modern vampires, creatures of the night.

This has been happening to me for sometime now. I agree the TV at night is horrible. My problem usually is that my brain keeps going instead of relaxing into a state of sleepiness. I do 3 different things, I either read, or start thinking of something I would like to dream about, or pray. All seem to help me. When reading I usually get tired within the 3rd or 4th page. When I think of something I want to dream about I usually just end up wondering off to sleep. The other thing I will do is Pray. I say a few pray and also pray to God to please help me get to sleep and it really works. Good Luck to you. Having insomnia is very hard to deal with. Not enought sleep and you just can't function.

Have you tried to read something before going to bed. I had troubled sleep for quite some time not long ago. Meditation helps too. The age old practice of counting sheeps works for some people but unfortunately not for me, I feel dreadful whilst counting sheep.
But reading a book or lisning to soft music should lull you to sleep.zzzzzzzz

Hi,
Sorry about the sleeplessness. It is surely frustrating. Try these things.
Make your bedroom calm and silent. Have a dim light in your bedroom. With your bedlamp on, try reading an interesting book by lying on your bed. Before that massage your soles well with mustard oil or scratch them with an hard object having a blunt edge. This works! Dont have a heavy meal before going to bed. Walk for about 300 mts after dinner.
Take a brisk walk in the morning and work out some stretching exercises too. Most important, stop thinking and anxious about anything as this is one big culprit.

Hi, I had insomnia for years and when I tried to sleep I worried about not being able to sleep and constantly looked at the clock. I finally resolved it by completely changing my sleeping pattern and adopted the early to rise, early to sleep, with exercise added during the day. Try and adopt the same sleeping hours each day. Gradually the sleeping hour becomes earlier which i suppose I used to fight as wanted time to myself in the late evenings. Now if I have a late night I still wake at the same time each day and have a better quality of sleep.

I think when you sleep, before you sleep you must be having a lot of thoughts running in your mind. There may be some stress or frustration in your mind too.Or is there any problem that is keeping you worried about also makes you sleepless at nights.Or sometime just because you really have no work and exertion also makes you sleepless actually there are several and different reasons for not being able to sleep.I think you should just get a routine check up by doctor soon.

Sorry to hear that! I have insomnia issues every now and then too. I usually do when I am stressed out or I have PMS. Sometimes I can listen to soothing music and it will at least relax me enough to fall asleep. I like to listen to Enya.

Try taking a glass of warm milk before you go to bed. It helps, really. No matter what you do, do not count sheeps. It will only keep you awake. You need to calm your brain and try not to get excited. Keep the room as dark as possible and switch off any distraction ie, radio, tv, the kids! Try not to think of anything as thinking can keep you awake. Try using an eye shade. Last but not least, try to go see your doctor. But keep that as the last resort.
