I was on myLot today and was responding to a discussion. I happened to glance down and noticed that a fellow myLotter was calling another a liar. That got me thinking(there's no fire, lol) Am or or should I be honest on the internet. Are others honest? In my case, as far as myLot goes, I do try to answer the discussions with my honest opinion. If I didnt the site wouldnt make much sense. I think mostly everyone is honest here. However as far as my profiles go, I am truthful to a point. I dont call it lying. I just leave it empty. If it is mandatory to fill it in, then I may lie just a bit. Just for my safety. I dont think it is going to make one bit of a difference if I dont give my correct address. How many people do you know that give their real birthdate? Are you totally honest. IM NOT. dl

I see no point in lying. That doesn't mean one should put their personal information out there for everyone to see, but mylot isn't asking for that anyway. The age in my profile is my true age, but I understand some folks are sensitive about their age and may fudge that one a bit - doesn't make them bad people.
I also see no point in starting discussions lying about other members and accusing them of doing things or saying things that they never said or did. I think it is hurtful and unnecessary.
I'm honest here at mylot, my opinions that I give here are my true opinions, because I am just too lazy to pretend to be anything but the person that I am, for better or for worse. People are welcome to judge me by my words and deeds, but I'll not allow anyone to accuse me of something I have not done or slander me by posting untruths about me. I don't think anyone should have to put up with that. I'm sure there is PLENTY about me that people can rightfully criticize if they want to, there is no reason to make stuff up.

Had a call like that for my hubby last night, he was at work. They said he asked for some money making info. I told them that I was making money and that they were interrupting me with their phone call. Hubby says he never gave out our number, but this guy got it somewhere. Maybe from some old stuff a long time ago, when we were looking at money making junk and scams.

I agree with you totally. I have given my real information and then I get a ton of phone calls saying that I wanted information on hair restoration, online degrees, land opportunities. lol Are they serious? I just got my first computer two years ago. I thought I had to be honest. Boy did I learn fast. I am with you. I dont have the energy to lie. Then I have to keep track of the lies. TOO much! No one should criticize for who you are. Usually when they do that it is because they are jealous. Anyways cant help it if I never LIE!lol(at least that is what my man thinks) just kidding. Happy myLotting.dl

Goodness, don't give out your personal information unless you know the guy ... here on myLot it doesn't matter where we are anyway, though knowing the country (or state if in the US) would be helpful in some responses.
A website that insists on my birthdate, I give 01/01/1958. Actually I was born the previous year. I figure at my age it is close enough for some strange website asking me such questions. For addresses I leave off the apartment number (they have about 900 to choose from) If I ever make enough to be actually paid (I have my preferences set at $50 here) then I'll be honest with any tax information.
I cannot imagine posting a discussion or response that is not my opinion, unless I state that I am giving the opinion of another. Or if I have no opinion, I would state so (or, most likely, not post anything at all)

The reason I started this discussion was to see if people really gave their true information. I see your point. I answer the discussions honestly on myLot. If its regarding my personal information I tend to be very careful. Thanks for your honesty.dl

I've always taken pride in my honesty, dloveli, but, let's face it, you cannot freely divulge your private information over the Internet. I was not always aware of this. and I believe that it led to my being forced to change my telephone number some time ago. Now I guard my private information pretty jealously. I don't lie about my age. I might fudge a bit on my weight! Some things about us are simply no one elses business.

I completely agree with you about the need to protect some of your personal information. There's a lot of crazy people out there.
I also had to change my phone number a long time ago (not due to the internet, but due to some nut harassing me), it was a real pain but I'm glad I did it.

Friendhip is based on trust and without it no friendship can develop. Bearing that in mind I am myself here and everywhere else. I see no point in telling it differently and living a lie at all.
Please note that in your 'account information' there is a new line asking to place correct information and anyone not doing so is liable to losing their account as stated in the Terms here. Maybe myLot are tightening up on things like other sites too.

My info here is correct. I was new to the internet at the time I signed up, and it just was not in me to be cautious. On sign up stuff, I give a number for a pay as you go phone.I like seeing accurate things here, as it gives me an idea about the people I am corresponding with.

Every information i have given, every opinion, every experience i have narrated is true. My posts, all the responses and comments i made are recounts of episodes in my existence. These are random bits and pieces of my life story. My life is an open book offline and i don't think i need to change the facts online.
Everything in there about me is true! Does that mean i am in danger here???

Oh, my...that is dangerous!!! As long as the new friends are like you and the other fine and funny ladies i have already given a piece of me, i will gladly welcome them all into my heart! That would be like having a real big happy family complete with all the neighbors around! Thanks, mysD! Just please be within reach and remind me to plug my ears when someone's stereo is in full blast, smile and say hello to the nosey ones and pray for peace and understanding when i find myself in the midst of unpleasant situations.

The substance of what I post is honest. Especially on MyLot. Sometimes that means trouble, I guess. Interest forms, not necessarily. Sometimes it backfires to be inaccurate, though. I filled in a form with a wrong birthday, got an insurance card that would save me some money, for free. Wal Mart was going to honor it, but the birthday was wrong.(imagine that) I had to go back in and change it. This card saved me 30% on a prescription, when I had no insurance. I do tend to disguise birthdays, phones, and addresses.

Well I am as honest as I want to be...purposefully I avoid most contorversial discussions coz I like most people here. There are some who are mean and rude on purpose and I dont hesitate to tell them that or to avoid them in the future (my list of english abuses is pathetically low...must improve upon this)but otherwise I prefer being diplomatic, Not dishonest entirely yet sugar coating what I want to say.

You know you have a lot of rowdy American friends that will be happy to supply a stream of abuses in English to anyone who bothers you, Sudipta! But you are a very nice person and they'd have to be insane to cause trouble for you.

Yep, i gave the correct birthdate, and .. well, yes the address too. Of course, i do keep a very small friend laying very close by, should i encounter any outside problems, from doing so.

They say that honestly is the best policy. I also believe that it is good to be honest. But think about it. There are times that when hearing the truth would only leave pain and a possible break-up. It is better to tell a simple lie than to suffer the consequences of a painful truth. I am not totally honest.

I tend to be honest because call me dumb Id like to think ppl are honest back lol. I have nothing to lie or hide at all. Eveything I try to answer or talk about are from personal expirience, But this is the internet and I understand that ppl will lie wether it be just little lies or big ones. Everyone has there own values as well some are more cautious than others just my personal opinion.

I have given all of my details with 100% accuracy . Also it is essential to give the correct information as our payments are related with PayPal, there the verification process entirely depends on our date of birth, our address in addition to our name. But I don't think in the profile, all the members have mentioned their correct details and if we see the age given in the profile and the age mentioned in their blog or websites or some other places we can find lot of controversial things. But it depends purely on them .Still they are having opportunity to change their details hope they will do..
