Earnings, Payments and Taxes

We wanted to clear a few things up. First, myLot is not going anywhere. We have been around for a while and plan on being around for a long time to come. There was a glitch in the update of earnings over the weekend that has now been fixed. Second, there have been several discussions and emails asking about a request we made of certain users for tax information. The quick answer is that this request did come from myLot and providing this information is mandatory if you want to be paid. We are a US based company and must comply with all IRS regulations. The long answer is that with the release of myLot tasks, some users earnings have increased dramatically. As such, myLot_payments sent out an email to several myLot users requesting tax information in order to comply with tax regulations. Many people have stated that we are only required to gather this tax information if you have earned $600 or more in the tax year. This is not our interpretation of the IRS rules and we have set a lower threshold for the collection of tax information from our users. However, US citizens on myLot will be sent an IRS Form 1099 if they earning $600 or more for the calendar year. Please keep in mind our terms of use also state: Any earnings paid from myLot may be taxable to you and we are unable to provide tax advice or assistance. It is the responsibility of each member to adhere to and understand the appropriate tax laws for your country. If you have questions on how to report the earnings you have received from myLot, please consult with a tax specialist in your country. Finally, with the expansion of myLot tasks, we are revamping our payment preferences and we will request tax information directly in your myLot account in the near future. In the meantime, those responders who need to submit tax information will receive an email from payments@mylot.com requesting this information.

It is a very simple process. You just fill out the form and fax it back to them. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to make money. I certainly appreciate it! : )

many local places - such as a copy shop - will allow you to fax it for a small fee. There is also the option of filling it out and signing it. Then scan it and email it back.

It's nice to know that admin is paying attention to the rumor mongers of our community here and is quick to dispel those rumors. Like any community we have our share of sensationalists of all kinds, most of whom I personally don't pay any attention to, but I'm sure glad YOU do! Thanks for the post.

I hope action will be taken for those who was trying to spread the rumour 'mylot is closing'. It has caused people to be worried and sad. Especially to those who just joined Mylot.

"heavy sigh" Thank you mylot for stopping the overly excited people that seem to always have their "panties in a bunch" Every single time there is a glitch or change it seems the same people get all excited.... Whatever happens on Mylot is not going to end the world.. Think people, use common sense, if you want to know if something is wrong in Mylot.... ASK THEM !! Mari

Once again, hats off to the mylot admins. I think most of us, especialy us more seasoned users knew these rumors were pure bunk to begin with. But a lot of the newer folks were all up in arms about it. And it didn't help that we had that little troll spreading and perpetuating it. Which brings me to my next issue. Thanks for booting the troll. Hope you got all the duplicate accounts as well. I do have a question though. What steps will you be taking in the future to prevent people like that from repeatedly returning? Or IS there even anything you can do to prevent their return?

Thank you for posting this clarification. I'm afraid that I have been one of those guilty of making erroneous suppositions. It would be appreciated if some explanation could be given, too, of the reason why so many spammers, scammers and trolls have been allowed to remain here so long. I trust that whatever glitch there was has now been cleared up and that order will be restored. MyLot is, on the whole, well respected for its fairness and adherence to the 'rules' published as Guidelines. It is something of a shame, I believe, that some older discussions which clearly violate the Guidelines are allowed to remain, since they tend to set a bad example to new members and can lead to false impressions about the manner in which MyLot try to regulate the site.

A timely alert and a useful reminder to us all, resident in the US or not, that our myLot earnings may be of interest to our own tax authorities (unfortunately). But it's our own responsibility to declare these earnings if appropriate.

I am so glad that you have posted this information on IRS and tax laws as I was concerned. I am happy you have implemented, or will implement this new requirement for tax information. I hope this helps to clear up everyone's questions and put the burden off of mylot and the mylot discussions that are unnecessary!

Hi, i am one who think strongly that Mylot will be here for a long time and i wish this for me and for you too. I am not US citizen, so i don t have any problem with taxes, and if i have are my responsability. And i am not one who have very big earnings. So, i am sure that is not a problem for any part. Have a nice day.

I don't think a lot of people will, Ambiepam, but it's great that they are going to send us a form, or direct us to one anyway! I think before they said it was up to us, but they must have changed that now, because of the tasks... that's what they said anyway.

This is great! All US contributors should have known this all along. There has been a lot of discussion about changes in the site, to make only tasks eligible for payment. Can you clear that up?

Hurray for mylot. This discussion really clears everything up. I never really doubted that mylot would be around or a long time though. I think the ones that posted all the other discussions were so much in a panic, that they just weren't think straight and saying things that are totally off the wall. At ;east the troll that was causing lots of problems is gone. I hope he never comes back either. Mylot, you have made my life much better since I have been here and I am enjoying myself so much that I jut don't want to be anywhere else. I am so glad that mylot will be around for years to come. Have a very good day.

I don't listen to alarmist. Someone said if there ever is a problem to look for an alert in the upper left corner, lo and behold there it was. bugs and glitches always are a curse on any site. Thanks for letting us know what the problem was which I never noticed anyhow. And thanks for giving us this wonderful site.
