Has anyone heard about the United States current plans to put a tax on juice and soda products. Supposedly they are trying to get children to eat healthier to curb the problem with childhood obesity and diabetes. Their solution is to put a tax on these high calorie and sugar drinks.
I for one am against the tax. I find it completely unfair. While their hearts are in the right place all this tax is going to do is further burden the people who are already financially strapped. Plus it is not the governments responsibilty to say what your child can and can not have.
I understand that obesity and diabetes is a huge problem. But if parents are not concerned with the health factors then a tax is not going to stop them from buying the products. It is similar to the cigarette taxes. It has not detered smokers at all, just caused them more financial burdens.
I for one drink juice and soda at home but limit what my children have. My daughter only gets to have a soda on special occasions. I think that the government is over stepping their bounds by placing a tax in order to tell parents what they can and can not give their children.
They instead need to focus their efforts on making sure that people are better educated on health related issues and more Americans have the proper access to health care in order to get educated on proper diets for children.
Do you think this new proposed tax on juice and soda is fair?

I have heard of this tax for the U.S., and I'm not sure if the proposed tax is fair or not, but I do think we're just going to have lots of obese poor people if we keep getting taxed so much. People buy or (sneak) whatever it is they want to eat or drink, the cost isn't going to deter some people.
