Do you throw away your old clothes just because you bought new clothes?

I find that since we buy new clothes then we are most likely to throw then away. Many girls in the early 20s do that. There has also been a trend to wear a shirt or a dress once then never wear it again. THAT IS A WASTE OF MONEY, isn't it. I just find it horrible for people to throw away their money.

I don't wear something a couple of times and then throw it away. That is a big waste of money. I wear my clothes and I can wear the for a long time without buying. However I do clean my closets out ever 6 months or so. Then I weed out stuff I know I won't wear again and give it to charities. Washing, folded and bagged.

I don't throw away my things. Don't you think weeding out is in a sense throwing things away because you don't want them anymore so you dispose of them. I am glad that you give your clothes to charties which is the best things to do.

That's good thing because if we don't wear the clothes anymore and give it to the charities or another person, it means that you did not throw your money. The clothes still have value even it is old and we already buy new.
If the clothes is my favorite, i do not throw it even it is too old. I still wear it every other day after i washed and dried it. Even i have new clothes i keep that old and do not give until i decide i will not wear it anymore.

I've never followed trends and I've never seen the point of getting rid of some that still useful just because you bought something new. I wear only clothes that are comfortable, and I keep them until they're worn out. I don't even buy new clothes (thrift-store clothes, mostly) unless unless it's to replace what I had to finally get rid of. Comfort is more important to me than fashion, so when I find something that's really comfortable, I hate to give it up, even when it's worn out.

Your view on clothes is the opposite my view. I find it very appealing and enjoyable to be honest with you. Going to the thrift store would never be my first option to buy clothes however, I am somewhat like you when it comes to wearing comfortable clothes. I agree with you, worn out or not, I still wear them but in the house as night gown because for some reason the best type of comfy clothes is the clothes from 10 years ago.

I never throw away my old clothes, I think that it would be wrong to do this. There are so many people that are in need of clothes particularly those in the third world. There's always a regular pick up in our area. They leave a plastic sack and we just fill it with all our old clothes and then they are taken away the next day, I think that this is a much better idea. I have never got into the habit thankfully of buying something new and then never wearing it, this is definitely a waste of money. Andrew

Where do you get your charity bag from? I need to find a good charity to donate some clothes when I get the change. Do you think I could just use a regular black plastic bag?

I usually put it in the closet, and sometimes give it to my relatives,or make it as a bet sheet, a new short, a curtain or a bag, or just recycle them, specially my old school uniforms, and sometimes i am wearing it till now.

I totally agree with you that it is a waste of money to go out and buy some new clothes and throw the old one away. I am not a type of person to throw away good clothes. If its good clothes I don't throw them out. I just expand the closet that I have and mix them in with the news clothes that I have. The only reason that I would throw away old clothes if they are torn up or they no longer fit.

I had never heard anyone ever say that now that they've purchased a new top they were going to throw an old one away. That is just plain crazy. CRAZY! Why would you throw perfectly good clothes away, especially since we all know fashion goes in cycles & what was old yesterday is new today?

Would you really throw them out. I mean when you say that you throw them out because they do not fit is it because you grew or gained mass. If I gained weight tnen I surely would keep the clothes to keep me motivated to turn back to my old size. In other cases when you are skinny as a stick it might be best to get new clothes and gain some weight. I do not spend so much time on clothes anymore because I know in the end we will live no more.

I usually buy classic styles instead of trendy. That keeps my wardrobe mostly up to date. There are classic pieces that I spent a lot of time looking for over the years. Those are treasures. I also design and sew for myself and those are definitely keepers. In the meantime, I do like to donate my clothing. If these people are throwing good clothing away instead of donating, I hope they never have to go to a thrift shop in order to get clothing. That is a real wake up call to stepping out of thinking only of ourselves and opening our minds to others' needs.

I never throw away my old clothes just because I bought new clothes, I think it is a kind of waste if I do so. I think if your clothes is too small or too big, you could give it to someone else. I often wear my sisters old clothes. If your old clothes really cannot wear anymore, you could make it as a cleaning rag or something else.

I do not throw away my clothes, when i buy new ones. Infact i'm brought up with my elder sis passing me her still good clothes, And since i do not have anyone younger , i do give my old, but wearable stuff( i do use most stuff till i can) in donations. There are a lot of people who do not have even 2 set of clothings to wear. Throwing away simply doesn't makes sense to me.
And i believe most of the people here in mylot would do the same. As , if they are here, that means they do understand the value of each n every CENT earned..... .

I don't throw my clothes away even if I have already used them for use, much less likely that I would throw them away after wearing them once. There are so many people out there that have no money to buy clothes and if I don't like to wear something anymore and it is still in good condition, I usually give them away to the less fortunate. I think these girls who just throws away their clothes should try earning their own money so that they can understand the value of money and how hard it is to earn money.

I don't throw any clothes away unless they have a lot of holes in them or is really badly stained. When I buy new clothes I make sure to go throw the current clothes that I have and judge whether I have worn them much lately or if the still fit. If they are still in decent shape but I don't wear them and they don't fit, I donate them to a local clothing center that takes them and sells them for cheaper or gives them to needy people. I feel that just because I don't want them any more there is probably someone else out there that could probably use them or want them.

Hello anumba121,
Well, I don't practice that! It is such a waste of money if you buy clothes and intend to wear them once, and throw them away. I don't throw away my old clothes whenever I want to buy a new one. I will keep in one place and when it is just too many clothes that I can't wear anymore, I will just give them away to my nieces or other siblings or donate them to people in need.

When they are old like rug and damage, yes i will throw them. but if they are still fine and look beautiful i can still make money from them. All i need is to post them in my website. I also donate to charity, and i also give it to my friends.
Happy mylotting and smile always!

Hmmm.. I think all of us have old clothes but not usually "throw" them. Sometimes, we give it to those who are victims of calamities or donate them. It's really a waste if you're going to throw them.
