How does sugar make you feel?

I love sweets! That is one of my many downfalls. That is why I am overweight also LOL but I love them. I have decided to try to cut sweets out of my diet and cut back on sugar intake all together. Wow! I was not aware of what all has sugar in it. I was reading that anything that is a simple carbohydrate has sugar or starch in it that makes the carbohydrate not so good for us. Well, I have been so misled by television and ads in magazines and ads in general. Things that say they are healthy for you might have lots of simple carbs in them. This is a learning process for me and any help that you can offer is very much appreciated. I can say that these few days I have left off sugar I have felt better. I have tried to replace the sweets with fruits and raw carrots, sliced cucumbers, etc. Well, as you can see I have a lot to learn and a long way to go so your advice is very welcomed. Thanks for your posts and God bless you!

Welcome to my world. I have been learning about natural health for over 20 years. I have always liked the taste of sugar but know full well that it is not a good thing to be eating. To boot, this year my wellness doctor tested me for allergies. I did it because my daughter has air-borne allergies and I thought I'll just get tested too. This was sort of just to make her feel like she was not the only one being tested. It turned out that I have allergies to corn and peanuts. I get really sleepy after eating them and have indigestion. I thought for years that my digestion was off because it seemed like I was always having indigestion. Now that I know that, life is much better when I stay away from these items. Here is the rub: Almost everything boxed or canned has "high-fructose corn syrup" in it. Don't believe the commercials that say it's okay in small quantities. If it is in everything from salad dressing to canned tomatoes, how can you just get a little. It is far more effective for the canneries to use this because they don't have to wait for it to dissolve as is the case with sugar.
If you live in the US and have access to a library, I can give you some wonderful reference materials in your quest for being healthier. I have been friends with a Christian master herbalist for many years and she has taught me so much. Someday I hope to take the same classes and also become a master herbalist. Maybe that would be a goal for me when I am in my 60s. I have been spending my 50s writing, blogging, etc.
Fruit is a very good alternative to sugar. I snack on about 1/2 cup of fresh fruit to a few ounces of meat (buffers the fruit sugar hikes) three to four times a day in between meals. Berries are great, especially blueberries, because of their antioxidant qualities.
As a sugar substitute, I love stevia. It is derived from a plant in South American and actually builds the pancreas (according to what I have read). Large manufacturers are really opposed to stevia because it is plant based and not chemical based. They have a lot invested in patents and you cannot patent a plant (or so I've read on the internet for what it is worth). It does not taste just like sugar but is still sweet, so there is some adjustment to the taste of it. Here is what is stated on Wikapedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia
Another good sugar substitute is xylitol. This tastes just like sugar to my family. I do have to be careful which source this comes from for me because it most often comes from corn in our area. To get more information on xylitol here is some information on that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylitol
When making baked goods and desserts, there are books on the market that use fruits, fruit juices, honey, etc. as alternates to sugar. You are venturing out into a whole new world and you will love what you discover. God bless you as you learn what is in the creation that is just plain fun and good.

I am so interested in the natural health area and herbs! I joined a class ast one time to become a master herbalist and never completed my classes. Now I wish I could find where I joined it. I love reading and learning what we can do naturally instead of all this processed stuff. Thanks for all the great information and for the comment. God bless you!

I have bookcases full of natural health information. That is part of the reason I have turned to the internet. I have been so blessed to have learned so much. I love to share and maybe help others. In between ministry, home schooling, dyslexia (now gone), sewing, organization, administrative assistant, day care provider, medical transcription, herbs, iridology, cats, home improvement, etc. I can usually pull something from an experience. It is always my pleasure to help if I can.

Sugar makes anything sweet either natural or artificial. I love sweet foods, leche flan and ice cream and if i overeat sweets, i felt thirst. That maybe the effects of sweet foods to me that hunger strikes me fast, after eating, despite of this i still love to eat sweets and drink lots of glasses of water.

I know the sugar makes the insulin rise causing diabetes and that in turn make you thirsty. The water is very good for you to drink and drink lots so you can wash the sugar out of your body. Thanks for your comment and God bless you!

Yes, insulin rises up that feeling thirst is also a sign of diabetis, but it is only the time i felt thirst if i overeat sweets, if not i do not feel it.
One thing is that, if you have diabetis, eating sweets will trigger it more?
Thank you and nice day...

Hello friend,
Even I am a big time fan of sweets and this has been the story since birth. It's not that I dislike salty items but when given a choice, I give in to sugar and sweet items. Even I am overweight by about 5 kgs but then i do make it a point to work out and walk enough everyday in order to keep a tab on my weight.
Cheers!

Sugar is the sweetest poison on earth. Sugar is so stripped of all nutrients that it actually forces the body to draw from other elements to compensate for the losses that sugar causes. That in itself causes weaknesses in the long run that weakens your immune system. It affects your liver and can increase it's size. Up to a certain point the liver can't expand any more, causing other steps to be taken to try to compensate for the onslaught of refined sugar. One of the side-effects of that is that fatty acids spreads to other organs and finally, when these are saturated, it turns to fat to try and curb the negative effects of sugar. I can go on and on, but to make it short, you would do your body a BIG favor by stopping the intake of refined sugar altogether.
If you could get hold of sugar cane or sugar beet and use the raw sugar from that it would be much better and not a poison any more.

Very good information there, 1boerseun and thanks for the comment. Yes, I agree truvia, stevia, or the sugar beet or sugar cane is our best alternative. Of course, all this that is better for us is more expensive causing us to have to give up something else but in the long run it will be well worth it. Thanks for the comment and God bless you!

Most of us like sugar. of course, i can not be rule out. When we are teenage and young, sugar is indispensable. But in that time, our metabolism is fast enough to digest and consume it easyly. Conparing to that time, our metaboism slow down with growing old. So it is not suit for us to eat more sugar. For our health, let's control our diet and reduce sugar, although it is very nice to eat. Take care of you. Happy mylotting.

Yes the sweet taste but it is not good for you in excess. I don't think it would hurt us if we ate it in moderation but I cannot eat just a little bit. LOL I want it all if I know I have it around the house. Thanks so much for your comment and God bless you!

Who says carbohydrates are bad for you? It's bad for you if you are lazy. But if you're the type of person who wakes up in the morning, walks a lot, or uses the stairs instead of the elevator, then carbohydrates are beneficial to you to give you energy to move!
Sugar? I love them sweets! I love them so much, one session with them can be called a craving. But I know my limits, I shouldnt be eating too much foods full of sugar. Sometimes, it's not good for me.
In fact, too much of something is bad enough. and too much of nothing? is just as tough.
Enjoy foods! Live life.

Well too many simple carbohydrates is definitely not good for you any way you look at it because that is the food high in starches and sugar. We really need to learn to eat the food groups in moderation. Thanks for your comment and God bless you!

I like sugar, but i cant have a lot of it. I have general anxiety disorder, so if i have too much sugar, i end up spazzing out in a panic attack. I really do like sugar though. When i was younger all i ever wanted was chocolate bars. I swear i used to wat 50 of those in a day. That could be why i cant eat them as much now. I cant even get through half of a chocolate bar before im done. And even a whole sweet tea makes me have a panic attack. It would be nice to be able to be a kid again, and be able to handle a ton of sugar and be okay.
