What do you think of Course Design in college?

I am a student majoring in mechanical engineering at collge.Recently I am busy doing my course design.I feel hard about it because it is the first time for me to design the whole project.The teacher says that through this process,we can be more independent and learn a lot about our major.
So what do you think of course in college? Do you think it is useful? Have you ever done that before? I would like to hear your opinion.

hehe Now I have almost finished the design.I have to say it is hard work and I have spent much time on it.However,Through this process I really learn something and earn precious experience that will defenitely do me good in the future. Thank you my friend~

It is very useful. I think it is important to take action.
You may be experiencing fear because your not specifically instructed in doing something.
But I would suggest asking what the teacher would be grading on to at least know your fundamentals so that when you attempt to create the whole project as a whole you would know the points you hit.
don't be scared trust me. being able to make your own decisions can help you create new alternative in presenting your project.
I always try to think of something i've seen but never happened in my school or put a twist.
I've made a project with a tv and a tape because a buddy in our group had a family vacation and we incorporated him in the project with a VCR which inturn helped with our presentation and helped our friend get his grade he also deserved.
It was about 15 years before projectors came out but then again a projector can't replace your friend like a VCR and tape can =)

Thank you for your advice.The teacher want me to do some organization design and functional analysis.Also some computer programs are needed.He will then grade on how well I do these things. I think I need to have confidence in myself and to believe that I can manage to do it.I would thank you again because you are the first one who respond to my discussion.Since I am a new user here,I would like to communicate with people and make friends.
