I really suggest you Windows XP; your computer became slow because Windows Vista needs more RAM memory, more Graphic video Card, more space to be intalled (like 8GB), You need like minimun 512MB and 128 MB in Video.
While Windows XP it needs 256 RAM and 8 MB in video is ok.
If you want to add more performance to your computer; let me know your hardware and I will let you know what you need to run your windows more faster.

So i think it is a problem that you cna have really often when you are using windows vista!!In many cases th computer and system is so slow due to the high capability of the graphic and media control so in vista are really heavy for a os too!!May be you cna reduce some graphics contents and also expand your virtual emory and cache memory on your system so it should eb alittle better..surely you can't have a strong multi-tasking in soem cases...and when you strat loading your os sure you that nto much programs running simoltaneously when vista boots if not it takes so much timejust to load your os too!!May be for this reason there is better a downgrade to xp..also because if an os is so slow it will affect your productivity too when you are on your pc!!

Nowadays many people still using windowsXP, Vista is quite good either but less compatibility in some other software so they went back to XP due to it. Windows XP still the best when it comes to performance.
Vista needs more power that comes from your PC specs, it will need more RAM atleast 2gig, good vista qualified video cards and motherboard or even a duo core processor, they are required to have if you don't want to encounter some slow or lag issues though.
A year or two/three ago PC may be usable enough and you can still upgrade some of your pc parts that stills in the market.
To make it faster, disable the aero feature, although not necessarily but you can add your memory and get a fast video card if it's possible for you. You can search tweaks and fix for vista, there's a lot way of steps to make it fast. However some tweaks are noticeably lowers the fun you see in Vista, and some tweaks might don't work at all, if it does then you have choices..upgrade or get back your XP installed.
I heard Windows 7 is better than XP and Vista(Dunno if it's quite true), just wait for it then.

All very true. Just make sure not to kill anything important. I have used 7, and it is excellent, this from a Mac lover.

'Best' is really a lot of personal preference. My opinion of Windows versions from best to worst: 7, XP, 2000, NT 4, Vista, 95, 98, ME. XP will always run faster than Vista or even 7 on older hardware - it is more lightweight. Disabling nonessential startup items and services can help speed. Be very careful when doing this, however. Know what you are doing to your system. Of course, there always is the option of getting a Mac or switching to Linux or BSD. ;)

Reformat your hard drive and reload XP back on it. Vista is a piece of crap. And, don't update your XP. It is also best to partition your hard drive and only have your OS on the C drive. Store everything else on the D drive where your OS doesn't have to run through it every time it starts to do something. This is what slows your computer down.

must say that I love XP and I think that it is the best opersting system after windows 98 and windows 2000 but those days have long gone. To make your Vista faster turn off aero and you will be fine. But also you will never get a better experience in your life until you run windows 7 on your computer I have been running it for a little over a year now and I must say that it is the best of all the OS right now. Besides that you can turn over to Linux which is very good. if you going that way try Ubuntu you will be happy with that one. If you are having trouble with repairing your problems try:

there you can type in your problem and you will get response on dealing with your problems have a great time bye.

You need to check your hard drive space and make sure it's not filled up and then see if you have enough random memory.
Other than that why don't you get Tune Up Utilities 2009 and use it. I have found it to be invaluable to keeping my system inn good working order. It has many options to help speed up your computer and you don't have to be a computer geek to use it.

Just stay on Windows XP unless you have atleast 3Gb of RAM and good graphics card. For Me Windows 7 is the Best! Yep im using the beta version and it's good no problems so far. feels like XP performance + Vista Graphics = Windows 7 ^^V Try It! Lower System Requirements than Vista too.

Hey,
I personally think that Windows XP was a pretty good Operating System, but when Windows 7 is going to come out, I think that it will steal the throne of Windows XP, and I can't wait until it is going to come out. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

Hi Midgefaria,
You can make Windows Vista run faster with the 'disable' some of facilities services, and change the 'aero' became standard.
