I am so tired of pitt bulls being blamed for biting or attacking people or other animals. If the owners would treat them right they would not get mean and want to bite or attack any one. I own a pitt and he is a great dog. He has been raised with all kinds of kids from a newborn to a teen and he has never growled or bit any of them. I have always raise this type of breed and I have never had a problem with them. I believe that if you treat this type of dog with kindness and love and with respect you will not have a problem with them. As with any other dog if they are mistreated and abused they will bite or can attack too. It ashame that you only hear of the pitts attacks and not to much of the other dogs. I love my dog and he is the best thing that ever happened to me. I wish everyone could know how wonderful this breed is. Only if they knew more about them and was not afraid of them. They really are just big babies who want to be loved.

This is true. If they are loved and trained they most likely will not be mean. I have owned 3 and have never had any of them be mean. They all have been raised with other animals and kids from newborns up and never tried to bite or attack any one. They are a great breed.

I absolutely agree with you Spank. The puppies that I have with the flea problem are Pit Bull. They are the American Staffordshire Terrier bloodline of the breed. I have encouraged people to read the history of the Pit Bull as there is more than one bloodline to this breed. I do know that The American Staffordshire Terrier is the more gentle of the bloodlines, but we have had an American Pit and he was a huge baby too. We have had more than one vet to tell us that they had rather treat a Pit over a small dog and there are published articles on this as well. A friend of mine had told me that your mean ones come from them being "gangster bred" which is cross breeding bloodlines, but with the right treatment, love, and spoiling them, they are just as gentle as the other ones. I was told by another person that the Pits that were recovered from the ones that Michael Vick had when they busted him for fighting them, have been rehabilitated and now go into nursing homes to visit the elderly and some have even become service dogs, and I think that is absolutely awesome!

I think because originally all dogs were bred for different things and what is in their breeds are always there even if it is deep, they have been known to snap for no reason and with these dogs the instincts they have will always be there but lay dormant....but as I saw on TV the other day all dogs can turn but I think this particular breed it is more relevent.

Yes this is true. But I also believe its the way you raise this breed too. My mom has a black Lab who is mean and will bite and has attacked other dogs in which she has done alot of damage to. So yes any breed can be like this. Thank you!!!

All dogs bite and all dogs, regardless of breed will respond to loving training. That combined with cross breeding the dogs would cut down on a lot of the aggressive tendencies in Pits, German Shepherds and Rottweillers.

I just wanted to share my experience.
One day my 4 young kids and I went to Petco. While we were in the check out line my, then 4 year old, daughter noticed the dog in front of us. She asked me and then the the very nice lady in front of us if she could pet her dog. It was on a leash and as tall as my girl was. The lady said she sure could pet her, she loves kids. I will remember that forever, "She loves kids."
Well the lady and I got to talking while my daughter was petting her dog. All of a sudden the lady was jerked by the leash and there was screaming and blood. The dog had my girls face in it's mouth.
After it was over, and I mean it has been years, there are only 2 scars left. One on her eyebrow and one under her chin.
The experience taught me to never be too careful with my own dog. He is a family pet, he doesn't know or trust others the way he does his family and I shouldn't test his limits. I let people pet him, but I don't let them hug him or pet him when he is being feed and I don't let him play as rough with others as he does with us.
My daughter still loves dogs, as a matter of fact, the same day after our trip to the ER, we were getting her prescription filled when she saw another dog and immediately asked to pet it. I said yes.
By the way the dog that bit her was an Australian Shepard. And my wonderful dog is a red nosed pit.
I want to add that no lawyer or newspaper were interested in talking with us about our accident because the dog that bit her was not a "bully" breed. My man and I were so disgusted but didn't know what to do about it. Everything they say is slander against these kind of dogs.
