street children - Innocence can sometimes be such a great gift; it is not stained by hatred or greed, just cradled by pure love. This is a picture of the street children in Malolos Bulacan who we encountered in our search for the people to be featured in Heed. Notice how they can still smile despite living a hard life.

Months ago, four college students asked for my help in producing an entry for their university's video fest. It is an annual contest for Mass Communication students of the said university. Their entry was a 40-minute talk show. Conceptualizing the talk show was not easy. We need something different. We did not want the likes of most of the talk shows aired here in the Philippines that often feature show business celebrities, cooking tips, gossips and politicians. We wanted to focus on the real side of life. Thus, we came up with the title, "Heed", which means "to pay attention". The program was meant to expose unheard outcries of ordinary people, and to take action in addressing those issues and concerns often neglected not only by the government but also by most of us. Because of this mission, "Heed" won the award "Most Valuable Talk Show Concept"Now that the contest is over, the question is this: Should we stop there? Did we just use our guests' stories just for the sake of having an entry or a project? The answer is NO. I am now working on a website for HEED. It would feature the stories we have gathered while making the production. Like the talk show, the site aims to create public awareness of ordinary people. Its now time for them to be noticed and not be taken for granted. The people I will feature in the site are not actors. They were not paid or bribed in any way to act in front of the camera. Instead, they are people who agreed to share their stories and experiences with us in the aim of inspiring other people with the same fate to overcome such trials. The site is not a guarantee of solution. It will serve as a "bridge" between people who needs help and people who can help. With this in mind, I would need all the possible help I can get. No, I am not asking for money, hehe! What I need from you is information or idea to further develop the website before it is even launched. (I guess it would take me a couple of months since I am just an ordinary web surfer, not a developer or an IT grad, but hey, I could still try right?) So if you know someone who needs help and can be featured in the site, I don't exactly need a video interview, just a picture is enough plus of course their stories, please do let me know. If you know someone who can help, the better. If you are someone who can provide professional help, then this may be your chance of giving charity. And best of all, if you would like to donate something (old books and used clothes will be very much appreciated) please post a comment to let me know. I will post some stories that will be featured in the site so you will have an idea about the people I am referring to as "those who need help". It will have the title "HEED:(the story/episode) I hope you can also find the time to read them and post comments on them too so that I could have more ideas of how to help them better. I am not a professional. I don't know groups or organizations that could help these people. I am not rich; I cannot provide financial assistance to those families. BUT I SURE DO KNOW HOW TO WRITE. That is why I am doing this. This is my way of helping others. What's yours? Most of the time, CARING is enough to HELP. Friend, let us be the change that we seek in the world. Thank you for your time.
