I am so glad you made this point.I think its important to take advise from a doctor if one is unwell rather than self medicate. Asprin as you pointed out can be a life saver as well as cause severe problems. Asprin is in fact a blood thinner and it reduces clotting.So if someone with a heart ailment suddenly gets a choking feeling they are asked to take asprin. At the same time if asprin is given to someone who can't stand the medicine, it can cause irritation of the stomach lining and lead to very severe pain spasms and worse. there are times when I wish we didn't need a prescription for certain medications. My husband has an infection in his mouth due to some broken teeth that he needs to get fixed. He knew exactly the medication he needed, and what it would cost. Unfortunately the prescription was only $20, but the appointment was $100. He's an American so not covered in Canada

You can't get every medicine without prescription here. Very dangerous medicines are impossible via the official canals. Common medicines however can even be bought in a shop. Potentially every medicine is dangerous so it doesn't matter whether you 'buy' ( medicines are free here when on prescription, as long as you have healthcare insurance, which is compulsory here) So there is no real risk when buying medicines on or without prescription. I don't know for your country so perhaps you can tell us.
