Hi all,
It is almost 1 am here, and it is supposed to be a peaceful night. But my neighbours who live in the upper floor are singing the Karaok right now. And they are LOUD!!!
I would not mind they do this during the day time. But the night time is for people to rest and remain quiet. They are not the first time to do this.
What will you do if this happen to you? Will you complain to your neighbours?
I am living in the apartment, will you ask the security guard to check them out?
Have a peaceful night and happy mylotting.

Well, if it's me, I will probably ask the security guard to check them out, instead of going up myself to complain to them directly. I do not know about your neighbors, but I'm not brave enough to complain to them directly in the middle of the night. In addition, I'm also scared that they may scold me instead for doing so, and sing even louder... If you complain to the security guard, at least it's the security guard who's going to deal with them.
Anyway, over here, the time limit for making loud noise (eg. singing karaoke loudly, switching on loud music etc) is 11pm. After that, there's a noise limit level which people have to adhere to. However, sometimes people do ignore the time limit and go past 11pm... Depending on situations, I will usually try and bear until they are done with it. However, there are times I had almost wanted to call the police when they went overboard, but was stopped by my family. They did stop later, which we guess that someone else had called the police instead because of the noise.

Singing Karaoke in the middle of the night? No way... it must be bothering other neighbourhoods very much! I think I will call the security guard and check them out. I have been living in houses for many years and never came across those problems becaue the place is spreaded out and big, we don't hear neighbourhoods loud very much.

Very simple, if they don't stop after 15 minutes, you call the police ;)
Disturbing public silence is sanctioned by law. If they really want to sing in the middle of the night they should either phonic isolate their apartment or go in the woods and sing.

I will definitely call the security guard to report this to them. I could not stand to sleep with any noise around me. I need silent and quiet enviroment to fall asleep. The neighbours should not sing Karaoke in the middle of night... Very annoyed

I would go to the owner of the building and explain what happened. Normally what they would do is try to observe if it happens again. At least hearing something from the owner would at least tone down the volume and make your lives peaceful again.

This has happened to me and it went on for several months. Not karioke but loud music and partying from the house next door to us. I asked them several times to keep it down, but all to no avail. I then decided that enough was enough, and I reported them to our local council.
A noise abatement officer was sent out and he fully agreed with us that the noise was intolerable and after that night, it stopped. Excessive is something that is being tolerated less and less here in the UK by most city councils and there are large fines and seizure of their equipment if they do not stop and consider their neighbours. - Derek

I think that I would knock on their door and ask them nicely to please quiet down or maybe even stop them outside and let them know that it is bothering you. Being up above you, you are going to hear all the noise loud and clear. If that doesn't work then maybe mention it to the manager. Good luck to you on this!

Well this is really something that you should be angry about. If they have done it once, then I think its okay. Probably they are celebrating something like a birthday or some graduation. But if this is done many times already, that is really something to be mad about. You should make a complain, in fact you can even file a complaint. This is obviously public disturbance. But I would suggest that you should talk to them first and try to ask them to respect the rest of the people including you. If they do not listen, then go ahead and file your complaint. You can call the attention of your baranggay officials.

Hi lulumartin. I understand you completely because we used to live to an apartment. Our problem was the landlord and his relatives sing loud karaoke every week until 2 am. We just don't have the guts that time to ask them to lower their volume because the owner has a bad temper and usually drunk. We always had confrontations with other matters so till then, we finally decided to move to another place to rent. In your case, since it's your neighborhood, you can try talking to them on the phone or just ask personally but politely. You can also talk again in the morning by showing them how sensitive your room to other noise, perhaps they could realize and be aware next time. If nothing else happens, call the local baranggay or security guard. You can ask them not to tell who is complaining if you don't have the guts.

I think there is a time of everything and loud singing should be regulated in places where the activity can disturb the neighbors' peace.
If I were in your situation, and there is security on hand, I will ask the security guard to check them out.

Oh that is always the scenario in my country. I don't know why Filipinos really like to sing karaokes. But anyway, are those people you are talking about Pinoys? Anyway, when I moved in Mumbai, there aint no single neighbor here that has karaoke or if they sing using the magic sing microphone or so. I guess Pinoys like to sing a lot and to let their neighbors know that they can sing ( aheem.. out of tune!)
The only noise i get here that is worse than karaoke are the (excuse me people) the temples of Hindus and the Muslims praying to their Allah. I have nothing against them ok. I am just not used of the same sound i get to hear in the early morning, noon and night. As if they are competing each other here
Anyway, as I said, I am not stereotyping. I just stated an example so i had nothing against these people. Happy Mylotting.

Hmmmmm. Reminds of my brother's neighbors who kept singing karaoke almost every 2 days when it supposed to be a peaceful night. but that happened on one or two houses at the same time. but since you lived in an apartment, it would be best to to tell that directly to the manager, or if they were doing it at night then tell the guard, for me i won't have to remind them twice..il just call security.

Well I definitely would complain that to the Building Administration for being like that. I think the place where you are living are residential so you have the right to sleep comfortably in your place. If you have neighbours that feel the same sentiment better that you file your complaint as a group so that the resident would see that they are indeed a nuisance.

They were very inconsiderate. You should report this to the management. It's against the rule. I love to sing karaoke too but I don't sing at home. It's quite a disturbance to the neighbours. Hope you can settle this issue :)

I had neighbours like that years ago. I lived in an apartment upstairs and they were directly below me. They were a group of four young men who played loud music and used the punching bag attached to MY balcony during the night and not just on weekends! My husband would go and asked them to stop and they would while he was down there but by the time he walked back upstairs the racket would start again. We called the Police on numerous occasions and eventually they moved out. It was going to be a case of us or them in the end! I appreciate your frustrations and I would definitely report them to the security guard!

Hi, lulumartin.
Oh, thats actually noise pollution, hehehe. Well in my place, there is a policy that it will be a quiet night already when its already 12midnight. Even neighbors host parties, they will tone down the voices and they will already stop the karaoke thing when it reaches 12. And im happy everybody is following that policy.
Happy mylotting and smile always!

If i were you, i would definitely report this to the security and the owner of the apartment. This is very disturbing to you and to your family.
If this is always happening, then you should do some actions and don't let them continue this very annoying activity..
I am sure they will understand your side..

If I were in such situation, I would just go upstairs, ring the bell and ask them to be quiet politely. If they still keep making noise, I'll then call secruity guard to intervene.
