I have had a prepaid cell phone for some years, I have been happy and have this little commodity that for a lot of people is a must have, It is a must have for me, not having a car, I rely on the bus and I need to let my loved ones what's taking so long, especially when I walk.
This month I am able to pay my prepaid cell phone with mylot earnings, I am excited, so I thought of this discussion.
So my questions are do you have a prepaid cell phone?
Can you pay it with mylot earnings?
And if you could would you have a cell by contract?

even if my earning pay for my load enough for a plan, i not going to get that plan.i would buy for me a new cellphone instead.hehehe

The more I know about contract cell phones, the less I would want one.
The only condition I will ever have one is if I have an office job and I can use it for work, other than that their cell phones are expensive, their batteries are expensive, everything is gear to keep you two more years in the company.

I have a prepaid cell phone. Always have since my first one.
I never thought about paying it with myLot earnings but there are months I could have.
I refuse to pay monthly for a contract. I don't use my cell that much. And there are months that I don't use it at all. I usually use it during the school year when I'm working, but don't use it when I'm not working - as you say I call to warn that the bus is late and things like that, other than that I don't really use it.
So even if I do pay a bit more per call it's still cheaper each year with the prepaid than if I had a monthly plan even if it was the cheapest one.
Would I have a contract if I could afford it? I don't really know. I guess if I had plenty of money to spare I could think about it. But I wouldn't necessarily jump for it, I hate to fall into the monthly payment trap no matter for what.

I agree with you, the more I know about contract cell phones the more it feels like a trap for their costumers. It is like everything is designed to keep their customers tied to a contract, their cell phones are expensive, and their extras are expensive.
Right now prepaid have prepaid monthly months that can rival those of a contract cell phone company and they are better to me because the persons are not tied to a contract.
And they charged much more when for some reason people go over their minutes, I believe it can be 40 cents per minute.
Plain horrible system. I believe the prepaid cell phones are more than contract each year.

my myLot earnings are enough to pay my monthly phone bills but i wouldn't spend it on that simply because i don't have a prepaid phone. wait, scratch that. i simply don't have a phone. period.
the one that we use here at home can go for as long as a week without the need to charge the batteries, that's how uninterested in phones me and hubby are
we have the internet, and we communicate with the outside world mostly through it, thus negating the need for a phone. ![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

Well that makes sense to me, and I believe that most people can do anything through the computer.
I send text messages to Frank to his email box, for him is free, part of the internet bill, and when we text from cell to cell, it is double the bill, so your way of life makes sense to me.
If I did not had to leave home or had a car, I am sure I would be that way too.

Hello Shelly,
It is a really interesting discussion to start, though it might sound simple when one reads for the first time.
I used a pre paid mobile connection when I was in my hostel, doing my engineering. Now I have graduated form the University and I own a cell phone which has a post paid connection. This way I do not have to keep a tab on the remaining balance.I know I end up overspending sometimes but then, it is fine as long as you know how to strike a balance.
No, I don't spend enough time here to be able to pay my mobile bill through the earnings here.

I used to have a mobile phone with a contract but I found that I was spending a huge amount of money on calls and there was just no capping point! Well, I decided to go for a pay as you go mobile and I'm so pleased with the way things have been going. I will never resort to a contract phone again. I know how much I'm spending each month by going for a pay as you go phone, it's a great idea. Andrew

Like two years ago I read that prepaid cell phones, or pay as you go are very popular in Europe, and that they are getting momentum in here, because of the many charges that contract cells phones have.
So the increase in prepaid cell phones is increasing.

Yes, I do use a prepaid cellphone because earlier I used to use postpaid cellphone but that way, the bills were getting higher and higher by each month and I had bear the grunt of using postpaid, so now I have resolved my usage to prepaid cellphone and it has worked great for me as now I have more savings, and eventually the monthly expense is not that more, so I don't need to use my mylot earnings for paying that

I am using prepaid cellphone now....although it might be troublesome as I have to keep topup the value once it is expired, but it saves me alot. I do not need to pay a monthly handphone fee as no contract is going on....Just feel free and easy with my current prepaid handphone usage.

I have a prepaid plan. I use Boost Mobile. I know you didn't ask, but I thought I'd say anyway. And Boost is alright, I guess. I haven't had too many issues with them and they seem to get a pretty good signal. I could use my MyLot earnings if I really wanted to. I just need at least $20 and to transfer the money into my checking account. I usually use my earnings to buy Skype credit, though.

Well with Virgin Mobile I have issues with the signal but they told me that in my are I would and they were not lying, ironically the area most affected is my home at times, at times I can't move at all but what I the most is text, and well I can text out of everywhere. So that's a plus to me.
I have a nitendo ds lite. I don't get skype, I have seen them but I do not understand.

Hey Shelly! I have the same situation as you do! I don't have
a car and take the bus too. I also take medical transportation
and need to call them to tell them when to pick me up so I
need to have a phone with me. I have had a prepaid cell phone
for about 4 years now. I just got rid of the Nextel Boost
Mobil phone that I had because it didn't allow me to roll
over the minutes and I had to keep adding $20 every 90 days
whether I needed to or not. I now have a Trac Phone which
is being paid for through my Disabilty and they give me
68 minutes a month for a year. Even if I didn't have this
I would still stay with Trac Phone because they allow you
to roll over the minutes and have a wider range of amounts
of money cards that you can use that are lower than $20.
I don't use the cell enough to need a contract. I use my
home phone for most of my calls.

That's a great plan to have, I can make local calls from my home but that's it, the long distance I either go to a public phone or use my cell.
Virgin Mobile also have rollover minutes but I believe one has to buy a 20 dollar package (200 minutes for that to happen every month) and they expired I think after 6 months) I really am not sure right now.)

I have a prepaid with Verizon. I use to have a contract with Cingular but I got behind on the payments. I hardly ever talk on my cell and when I do the people I talk to they also have Verizon so I don't have to use all my minutes. I also have unlimited texting.

Makes sense to me, what I do not like is the little payments that ones has to me on the days one uses the phone, plus the minutes one uses. I used to have unlimited texting too but I am only texting to a handful of persons right now so I have the 1000 text message.

Hi, I too have a prepaid cell with me for quite a long time. actually I am able to contact my husband at a cheaper rate to know about his whereabouts when he goes out of station and when he is late from work or held up anywhere. I hope I am also able to pay for my cell like you in future as I have just joined Mylot and my earnings are not sufficient to pay the bill right now.
