I love Stephen King. Like, really really love him. Sometimes I'm embarrassed to admit that, because I read a lot of real literature, and I consider myself to be a writer, and he basically writes pulp, but he writes it so well. I've read every novel he ever wrote, including the ones he wrote as Richard Bachman, and most of his short stories. Does anyone else out there enjoy his writing? What's your favorite book? You can talk about his movies too, although I haven't seen as many of them as I would like, and in general, I tend to appreciate them much less than the books. He has a certain nuance and depth to his characters that's hard to translate to film, especially if you're trying to turn a 1200 page book into a 2 hour movie. So what books do you like? Which ones do you hate? Which ones do you want to read but haven't gotten around to it yet?

I've read a lot of Stephen King books, but to tell the truth, once I've finished one, it slides out of my mind and doesn't make any impression. They're well-written and entertaining, but most of them don't offer any food for thought. The only one I really do like and have read more than once is The Stand. King's characters are almost always realistic, which gives the books a lot of their value. I don't care much for religious and supernatural topics, but they're necessary to the characters in The Stand, and help make the conflicts more interessting. The television mini-series of The Stand was very well done, with a good cast, and I've watched it several times.

There's a couple that I think stand out from the rest, but for a lot of his books, I agree with all of that. I think that I read Stephen King like most people watch TV, because I really don't watch TV that much. I watch movies sometimes, and there's a couple shows that I'll try to catch once in a while, but when I want to just relax and turn my brain off for a couple hours, I turn off the TV and pick up Stephen King. I know it will always be fun, it will never be stressful or make me think too hard, and there will always be more.
