If you are an employer looking for an employees, what is the most important qualities to consider when hiring. Are you after the acquired skill or academic skill. Their are people who get a job, because of their long records of experience and other training attended, which make them the most valuable asset of a company. While other employer see the academic qualities of the job seeker if its match in the vacant position available. Learning is not only limited to those person who finished college. The studies we learn from college are all theory while it says that true learning of the real education is best experience outside schools. Employers hire employee with academic excellence records in their resume and other are looking for the skills acquire even not a graduate of college. Which should come first, acquired skills or academic skill when looking for an employee?

If I would be an employer I will look for an employee who are has a more experience with the position that I am looking. Cause I am very sure that experience is better than having an academic knowledge.

Hello Neel, I think that depends on the job the company were hiring for.If they were looking for a managerial position,i guess both skills were highly required. But with regards in field jobs, like for example,a news reporter,a field reporter of a tv station, mostly they required acquired skills from the previous jobs of the said applicant. So,it varies from the item/position the company is looking for.Even jobs for overseas, they are very particular with the " SKILLED WORKERS" FOR HIRE(skills being priority) ...or..PROFESSIONAL FOR HIRES(which requires academic and skills). Have a good day always

Both skills are really are important and lacking in the either the two will often lead to mismatch qualification and skills. Having both are a great achievements and every aspiring applicants should try to attain or even surpass the pre screening and land on the real jobs..

for me, actual work experience is more important (and useful) than academics. Sad that some employers prefers unexperienced graduates from top schools than undergraduates w/ work experience.

Yeah, it is really an advantage if you acquired academic skills but many people gives values to experience. In our country even though you finished a degree in college but you are already more than 30 years old. It is hard to find a job, even though you have more experienced. because almost of the jobs here caters to sales and upfront skill required face to face interaction with customer. They need younger staff which mostly are slow and with no experience. I really appreciate other country who accept older applicants to work and never discriminate the age as long as she can perform the job and responsible. They could feed their selves without depending on their family or resort in self employed or invest in own business because she could not find a job.

Theory without practical does not give a satisfactory performance. I always seek for work experience in my employee as this is vital in today's fast world. I can't be training a graduate for the job. It is better to have people who have the experience and skill over those graduates who are very demanding yet have not proven their capabilities.

yeah, it really lost its values when school life is over and the true learning is experience or hand own learning is at best. But, sad to says many employer especially in the sales and business upfront business prefer young graduates compare to the experience one. They prefer attractive men and women as strongest assets in their marketing forces. I only notice here in my country the older generations who work have reduce in numbers due to discrimination in age hiring and a lot of competition. But, for my over all opinion applicants with a lot of experiences, the older the better is more serious on the job and very committed. i do hope that employers should give chance old people to work, to look on their working experience not on their age on their resumes.

It would depend on the job vacancy really. There are those jobs that needs a lot of work right away that training or probation isnt an option. In this case, those that have long experiences in the said job wouldnt require any more supervision since they already know what they're going to do and what is being asked of them. As for those jobs that isnt really a high priority that the responsibilities needed to be fulfilled can be managed by most people, then those that dont have experience can be welcome for the job. Of course in these kinds of job descriptions it would be better of the applicant has good academic skills which means they can easily understand and get what the training will provide for them. This would possibly cut the training or probation time in half which would make them get the regular job faster. For me, acquired skill is definitely more important. These skills are usually self-taught and can never taken from the person by anyone. It's either you have it or you don't. But with academic skills, there are loopholes or ways that you can get high ranks but still didnt actually learn anything (kinda like memorizing and not understanding). That's just what I think anyways.^_^

well as an employer I will always look for experience in the field first before education. In actual fact I don't even look at the education background as it makes no difference to me. What I want when I employ someone is the ability to be teachable, ability to learn ability to be a self starter. Academic qualification is just a bonus and not a major requirement when I'm hiring.

Experience boost confidence that you really know your specialization. and is an asset to every employer to hire an applicant as it will never drive the company to shame. instead hiring a potential employer serve as a driving force to produce more quality output and increases productivity. having academic skills cannot be denied as a main requirements to fit in a job. You could not be hired to take office jobs if you are only a graduate of secondary levels. Both are important qualities which a good applicant should acquire before applying.
