A newbie's cry: How do I end a discussion?

Philippines
July 16, 2009 2:15am CST
Hello, everyone. I have started a topic and have chosen the best response. I thought that the noted choice was enough to close the discussion. To my surprise, another entry was added the following day. For me, the topic is resolved. How do I stop people from responding to it? Is there a button or a box I need to click or check? Thank you for helping me out with this.

Hey, why you want to end up your discussion? There are memebers even cry for response, they have no response and dreaming to have just one, but you have that much and you want to stop them. It's different than yahoo answers, because here we're not just asking question and expecting answer, but we generate discussion here. So don't you worry even after you denote the best response you will still find other people responding in, it's actually your source of money. Know what, if you give meaningful comment to every response you'll gain money from it, but don't expect to get money if you just say something like "thx for your response", but you must be creative thinking different words to reply their response. Your comment alos should have 4 sentences or more to be qualified as a quality discussion in order to earn money. That's some myLot secret for you, so the more responses the better. Cheer up dude

You have a point there! Others are begging for response when their discussions haven't received any response. Others are very happy when they receive a lot of responses but in this case, a user wants to stop getting responses. It depends on him/her if he/she entertain a response or to ignore it. When a user started a discussion, it is a responsibility to check out for responses received and/or to reply on them to earn more.

@thrupages, just a correction, it is not true that you earn when you receive a responses. We are paid by our own activity and not by the others. You can only earn from it when you post a comment to it, take note that one-line posts will not be paid.

I must have skipped a lot of lines in the process of signing up! (^_^) Thank you for sharing your secret. It must have been the OC part of me. I want things clear. A thing opened needs to be closed. The concept of never-ending discussions is very new to me; being paid in getting responses is another one. This makes me feel excited to discover more of what mylot can offer. Now, I have a new thing to watch for. I should be more careful with discussions I start. They should stand the test of time. May I never get into a scene where I'd need to beg for responses. (^_^) Again, thank you for sharing this piece of advice.

There are thousands members in myLot and each of us have our very own opinion. That's why if we need to start a fresh discussion, we have to search for the keyword of the discussions we intend to create to avoid any duplicates and to let the old ones keep on going. So, if you stumble into a month or a year old discussion and you think you do have something to say about it, just respond. That how it works. There is no ending. If there is an end button, then somebody starts a new one with the same topic in future, it will somehow lose its' originality.

You have shared a very good point. It has something to do with originality then. It keeps an original one fresh so that people just add to it instead of copying stuff. I like the concept. Today, I have started reading pages for reading sake. I have stopped to mind the dates when those discussions were started. It is more enjoyable. Thank you very much for sharing. (^_^)

Good day, thrupages! Well, discussions are endless once you post it and as long as it exists and haven't been deleted yet. You can't stop users from posting on your discussion. Just let them post to share their ideas or views so they can earn. You can also earn by posting comments on them, take note that short posts will not get paid. Happy mylotting!

Thank you for all the things you have shared here to orient me with the benefits of having an active discussion. Right now, I felt like shrinking. The scene in my head portrays me like a kid being told by adults here in mylot. I feel embarrassed but well-taught. I should look forward now to getting more responses. (^_^)

Hi thrupages, Why you open up the discussion at the first place? Looking for idea, solution or information? If you looking for this then there is no reason for you to stop the discussion. There is a lot of solution for every single problem and you should thank this people who give their time and thought to help you. This is the way how other mylotter try to help each other beside making some cents. Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

My question was very simple and I received detailed and well-organized responses. For me, it's a close deal now. After reading the first five responses, I agree that I should be thankful instead that there might still be more brilliant ideas to help me out. Thanks for reminding me to be open-minded.

Your response is the fifth in this same thread. I just want to say thank you for dropping me a short note. Have your response been the first one, I should have been asking you why should I just accept it. Yet, I have learned from the earlier responses. Now, I'm happy to see my discussion just waiting for the next person's remarks.

I think you are pretty lucky because a lot of people are responding to your discussions. Just let them respond to it because the main goal in Mylot anyway is to be open to different opinions of different people. So even if you already selected the best response, I think you should still read the response. You don't have to add a comment to each reply but it wouldn't hurt your earnings if you do. Happy Mylotting! :)

I must have gotten much into forums that simply leave one discussion after receiving responses, like marking every thread a definite end. Mylot is more accommodating and open. I have just learned my lesson today, not a very easy one. I felt my cheeks blushed after reading the responses here. Now, I know better. Thank you. (^_^)

There is no such thing here in Mylot. Just let them reply to it and its up to you if you are to reply back to them or not. That is how things work in here. Choosing the best topic does not necessarily closes the topic in accepting replies from other members.

Just let them reply to it. I don't know why you shall not want other people to reply to your discussion. By the way, it does not matter if you chose a best response, others can still reply, and there is no way that you can stop it. Anyway, you still earn money for the responses you receive, so why want to stop the responses?
