I have a story. It may be terrifying to some and humorous to others and some of you may just dismiss me as being a typical girly girl. I work overnights this week and I don't yet have my washer and dryer set up in my new house... out in the middle of nowhere... by a huge empty field. I walked out to my car to get my laundry so that I could start getting ready for work and left my door slightly open so that I could easily bring my stuff inside. As I was walking to my car I heard a loud knocking sound and looked over and saw a huge flying THING knocking against my door. I dismissed it as a bug figuring that the door was not open enough for him to get inside and went about my business. Then I heard the creak of the door. THE BUG HAD PUSHED OPEN THE DOOR AND FLOWN INSIDE!!! The door was closed to where I could push it open, but it was not by anymeans a task that any normal bug could accomplish! He had flown into the bathroom which is right by the front door, so I closed the bathroom door and grabbed a fly swatter hoping to direct him back outside. When I opened the bathroom door, I found he had run into the cabinet and was lying on his back flailing miserably. I finally was able to get a good look at him. He was about the size of my palm! Some sort of beetle with a hard shell and big long spiny legs and two long things that kinda looked like whiskers. Absolutely terrefying. So I flipped him over and tried to swat him outside because other than the fact that he was gigantic, he seemed harmless. AND HE FLEW RIGHT AT ME!! I shrieked loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear me and trapped him in the bathroom once again... It took three good swats before he slowed down enough for me to scoop him up and flush him down the toilet. Now I'm afraid he will fight his way back up the pipes for revenge.
Whew. Hopefully with enough flushes he will be gone for good...
Have you ever had such a terrefying experience? Are you afraid of bugs?

Hi allison, Nice description. I couldn't stop laughing when i read u fear that he may come back again. Watch out in the night time, may be thats the time when you are unarmed and can be attacked easily .
Well seriously i never had any experiance of that sort. Many years back when i was living in another state of India, Monkeys use to enter our house.
Now i know its quite terryfying as well but we had a dog who took care of them, Anyways.. hope u never encounter this kind of problems in the near future. And if you do I hope the bug gives atleast some kind of fightback this time
Cheers,
Tutul

Oh yes they were quite big and scary too. I was too young then to fight with a money so my dog had to do all the work
Cheers,

Really? Monkeys? How big were they? That would probably freak me out too.

SPIDERS!! We have these gigantic, ugly brown spiders down here in Florida who aren't afraid of you and who apparently like bug spray because that never works on them! When we first moved down here we had a couple of banana trees on the property and I thought that was so cool...until I learned that those spiders like to live in them. Needless to say, the banana trees were gone in short order. I was also scared by a little green frog once. He was hanging around on the side of my house so I took a picture of him. It didn't turn out as good as I wanted so I was looking through the lense, getting ready to snap a second shot when he LEAPED on the camera and part of my hand, too. I guess he didn't like the flash....

ahh! haha poor little frog. Frogs don't really scare me too much, and really neither do spiders. Although somehow I always end up with spider bites. But most of the spiders here are harmless, so its kinda like a mosquito bite. But big spiders scare me. The first day I moved in I spent about two hours vacuuming the basement because of all the spiders and webs and then spraying for bugs. But the house had been vacant since January, so that was kinda expected. Hopefully now that I've sprayed, it won't be a problem anymore. But yeah, I would be scared of those banana spiders too, I bet.

My father used to jar and send me to show and tell with banana spiders when he was working for the produce company. Therefore, I am ok with spiders. It is centipedes and millipedes that make me jump out of my skin.

Arrgh! Flying cockroaches. That is creepy.
The worst bug I have ever dealt with is the black widow spider that we found in the kitchen a few years ago. Or at least, I think that it was a black widow.

In general, I am ok with spiders. My father used to work for a produce company, and occasionally he would bring home a banana spider for me to take to show and tell.
It is cockroaches, millipedes and centipedes that freak me out. I do not want to even think about how badly I would have reacted to a flying cockroach.

I am wondering what kind of bug that was. At first when I was reading your story, I thought maybe you would say that a bat flew in your house. All I know is that I try to capture bugs in a jar or something and throw them back outside.
I definitely do not like bugs. This year is especially bad for mosquitos. I am almost looking forward to winter to have some relief from them. Wasps are also a bug that I really really dislike. I just won't go outside when they are out flying around.

Ugh mosquitos are bad here too. I don't know what kind of bug it was, some kind of beetle, but it was huge. It was probably just a normal beetle, but because of being so far out in the middle of nowhere they can grow to be really big.

wow, that was some story.... quiet entertained to read the whole thing, although it's hard for me to believe that the bug could have slightly pushed the door, but as you describe him, as big as your own palm, he must be able to scare anyone... poor thing just got flushed...lol........he is going to fight back from down under!
well for me, i don't like spiders, not small ones the large ones, i really hate spiders i don't know why, their creepy legs maybe.... sometimes a typical kind of spider comes to our house from the trees or whatever, it's stomach is flat but spread out and it has thin long legs, it is brown in colour and usually stays in one position for a long time, and can run very fast....yeawk.... i hate those spiders... but i like the small jumping spiders, they are cool... but if you look closely at them, they can be very scary if they are bigger in size, they somewhat look like tarantulas....
have a nice day and yeah, next time you might need a bigger swatter!
:O

I know!! I couldn't believe it either! I saw him running into the door, but didn't think anything of it until he had run into it enough to push it open!
