Do you turn off your car when you get gas? Do you smoke?

There are signs all over the gas stations saying you should turn off your car before pumping but I was curious if people actually did it. I'm paranoid and I KNOW that if anyone's car is going to blow up because they left the engine running it's gonna be me. If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any at all. My husband usually leaves the car running, which drives me nuts. He doesn't think anything will happen, but I hate to take the chance.
What about smoking? Do you smoke while you fill your car? I've seen a couple of people do it, which I can't believe since the fumes are so flammable. Some people just don't care, I guess? Or they have the "it won't happen to me" mentality?

I do always turne off my car when I am getting gas. I cuiet smoking around 2 years ago but when I smoked I will never smoke when I puting gas. There has been a few times that I have seen people smoking when they are puting gas and that makes me really nervous. I like to take precautions in everything that I know that something might go wrong.

Yes, I turn it off. I make sure to do so before I even exit my vehicle. And as I'm a non-smoker I don't smoke while pumping gas. Though I have seen people smoke while pumping gas before. I even heard on the news awhile ago about someone catching themselves on fire, along while their vehicle, if I remember right. A few months later I saw a woman smoking while pumping gas at the pump directly opposite me. I was furious. I mean, come on, it doesn't take a genius to figure out there are warnings on these things for a reason. But instead I said in a joking manner that she was going to blow herself up. She laughed back nervously and admitted that she knew she shouldn't do it. Fortunately she finished up quick and left.
I will admit that I had my blue tooth on while pumping gas once. I had just gotten it and forgotten about it being on my ear. Now I make sure to take it off and leave it in my vehicle before pumping gas. But I've seen others use their cell phones while getting gas. One person was even a cop. And here there are signs all over the pumps stating not to use these things.

I do. I turn off the car engine when I am at the gas station. Yes, that is a necessity precaution. It is not because of the sign boards. Just that I am in that habit to be mindful for safety.

My household always turns off the car when we are filling up. Thankfully none of us smoke so we don't have that problem. To me its common sense to turn off the car and not smoke when around the gas station at all. I just don't think alot of people have much common sense at all.

I always turn my car off when I am pumping gas. Sometimes I'm by myself and I get out and lock the doors. I'm paranoid that someone will try to break into my car, even though there is nothing valuable in there. I also do it because, I know running the car for the amount of time I'm pumping gas isn't going to use much gas, but it still uses gas and would kinda go against putting gas into the car. Maybe I'm wrong but that's kinda how I think of it.
