I didn't have a party for my son's first birthday party but, i just baked a cake and my husband and myself sang happy birthday for him. Some people I realize have a big bashment party and to me the kids can't appreciate a party at that age so, why bother. Isn't better to have a party when they are old enough to understand what is going on. What do you think?

I remember my daughters first birthday we had it at my moms house because that is where I lived at the time seeing that i was only 17. I baked her a cake and we sang her the song. Gave her cake and a present. It was so simple and sweet. We did take pictures tho because you have to have pics of there 1 birthday. Bt I dont see way people have big parties for there kids 1st birthday the baby is not going to remember it, so basically they are just wasting money. So I am so with you on a small birthday for kids.

I think that it is ok... In fact I did this for my, who is 2, at both ages... Strange enough he did not even eat his cake either time, he rarely eats food this like.. But i had time to try to share with him.. my family, that I do not contact much, lives out of state.. So, unless grandparents and cousins are there.. or the friend neighbor with kids is around.. A mom and dad are the best people to have the kids party with..

That sounds perfect to me. I find no reason in a large party for an individual that has no idea what's going on, and can probably do without the noise. The fact that you had an appreciation is what counts. Congrats on the 1 year old.
