Text from Life.com:The Department of Homeland Security recently issued a chilling report: Americans, it said, can expect an upsurge in "rightwing extremism" from White nationalists, militias, and groups like the Ku Klux Klan. The Klan, of course, has had a hand in some of the nation's most infamous acts of racial terror and murder. But what does the KKK look like today? Photographer Anthony Karen has documented the modern-day Klan in their homes, at rallies, and at Klan gatherings, taking us deep inside a world we would otherwise never see -- a world most of us might not even want to know about. The unnerving photos featured here, exclusively on LIFE.com, are from his new book, "The Invisible Empire: Ku Klux Klan." "The majority of people I've come across," Karen told LIFE, "you'd only know they were in the Klan if they decided to share that."

Tell me, what are your thoughts about the Klan? Are you surprised that such a group still exists in the United States?
Me, I wish this group would disappear from the face of the Earth and never return.

I don't think the KKK will ever disappear, when you breed hate it takes a long time to die out. How about we talk about left wing extremism? Why is always right wing, oh yea, because the right has morals and lives by a different code. There is extreme in everything.

Every one live long enough in USA know that these type of racial hate groups existed in the country as long as American apple pie history. The thing here is since HSD and FBI know the danger these really BAD AS* group of gangsters can create inside the country, what are they doing to counter this internal threat of Peace ?? Probably the federal government/ president should order military strike on their headquarter or gathering place inside USA or start bombing their weapons storage warehouse, any objection from you??

What do the KKK and Organized Religion have in common?
A lot the message is deeply steeped in tradition of who is above and who is below, the truth be told the root of right and wrong is designed as one natural method based upon facts.
One path leads to destruction as the truth is covered up with lies.
The other path to life is truth.

Hi fwidman,
I agree with MYKL, these peopl are so disusting and surprised that they still going stron in this day and age these peole should be taken out and put in Alcatrz, give them loads of robpes and boxes of matches, leave to rot. so they can kill themselves, the whole lot of them.

They can't get along with others because they do not want to, some people call it self preservation, others keeping traditions and taking care of the nation, and others is well protecting their beliefs but well, they can name it any thing they way, if they do acts of violence towards another group, yes, it is a hate crime and no, they don't want to get along with that group.

Hey fwidman! This is beyond disturbing to me to be honest! I
find it extremely unbelieveable to see that there are still
people out there that actually do still exist like this! It
just made me sick to my stomach to see these photos! These
sickos are racist and nazi supremists! They hate Blacks, Jews
and I'm not sure who else! I am part of an interracial couple
and am a Jew by birth! Should I be afraid? I find this so
very sickening that these people are allowed to walk this
earth free to spout their poison! Why are they still here?
I thought that by now they had finally vanished into thin
air! I guess I was mistaken! I hope that by the Grace of God
that someone does make them disappear forever!

They hate, as near as I can tell, everyone except white folks and I'm not too sure about that one either. I'm sure they wouldn't like me, my wife is Hispanic. I knew they still existed, but I too wonder why. I'm afraid that only God can take care of these people.

Hmmm? An upsurge? 2009. It's 2016. Did the KKK switch alphabets and now they're ISIS? Just when you think you're the baddest, somebody rises up who is way badder than you ever even thought to be!!
