If you donate blood, what got you started? If you don't, then why don't you?
I work for the local blood bank and I am always asking why people start to donate. The most common response is that a family member needed it and they just kept coming back because they saw the need. How about you? happy mylotting!!

I firs donate blood after listening to a blood drive campaign at my collage.
Then I donate every 2-3 months or so due to feeling it is a good thing to do.
I did donate blood when friends and colleague ask me for some blood for their family member, I did once donate for my boss father that went in for surgery.
Now I am unable to donate anymore after the doctors told me not to due to being a type 2 diabetic on daily pills.
I wish I can donate blood again. I now there is some one out there that need my blood.

I would like very much to donate again but the doctor gave me some trial medicine that is not on the market yet, so they don't want me to transfer the medicine to others.

ctually, if you are just taking pills and have your diabetes under control, you can still donate. At least we will take diabetics that are on oral meds and have their blood sugar level under control. But if your Dr. has told you not to, then you better not.

I would absolutely love to donate blood but I can't. I went to donate blood this previously year and got told that my veins are too small and wouldn't be able to resist the pressure and the needle to donate blood. They said if I wanted to I could try drinking a ton of water the day before and see if it helps but I already was doing that since I drink a ton on a normal basis anyways and so I'm one of those people that just can't. If I could I would because I know that I can live without that blood that I'm donating and that it is going to save someone's life that needs it.
But why I decided to? It was a friend that was doing it for a business fraternity as a community service thing since we have blood drives all the time at my college and she asked if I would go along since she didn't want to go by herself.

Thank you for trying. I guess your job, then, is to tell others to try to donate, since you can't. Every time that I hear an ambulance coming, I say: "there goes the blood supply!" But I am also very thankful that the blood supply is there for those that need it, when they need it! have a nice evening and thank you for responding!

Hello PSmith. I have been thinking of donating blood for years, but as I have been afraid of being injected and seeing blood, I have not made it so far. I think that it is a good idea for us to donate some blood to help those that need it. If we donate blood, it is for free, but it is also good that if one of our family members happens to use blood for the saving of their life, it is also free without having to pay for it because of our having donated some blood.
Here in China, in quite a few cities, you can see some stationed buses on a certain part of the downtown for people who would like to donate some blood for free. Hope some day I will be brave enough for this to make some contribution of mine to other people. Take care, PSmith.

I use to donate blood on a regular basis. What got me started? I belong in a family full of nurses - so they always talk about the bloody need. No pun intended. Anyways, then I went away to college, very far far away from home. Then at school, they have these blood banks every quarter. So I decided to donate at the point because it reminded me of my family. But shhhhh, they don't know about this so don't tell them.
Anyway, post college - I moved back home. And still kept at donating blood. About 8 months ago, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and had a section of his colon removed. My other asked me to avoid donating blood for now just in case dad needs it. At this point, dad has gone through chemo successfully. Once he's truly out of the woods for sure, I'll be going back to the local blood bank to donate.
Plus those shirts that they give away - I usually get a size or two bigger and use them as night-shirts. They're so comfortable!! Hehehehe..

I have been denied donating blood, because I weigh 110 lbs. They told me I need to gain weight to give, but I'm very comfortable with my weight. I wish the rules could be changed. I used to give back in 1985 when I weighed 20 lbs. more, and I gave blood then because the Naval Base I was stationed at needed blood.

The weight limit is 112, so if you put on just 2 more pounds---LOl. But I understand what you are saying. The rule is that you can be 110 and donate but that is without clothes! I don't think they would like it if you took off your clothes to donate. (or maybe they would) ha I have several pounds that I could give you and wouldn't even have to give them back. hehehe
Ok, seriously, thank you for donating. And congrats on losing 20 pounds! I wouldn't want to put it back on if I didn't have either! have a nice night!
