I like to read now and then but Most of the time I don't even bother because I notice that reading just makes me tired. I open and book read a couple of pages then I just start getting tired.. Eventually I will just close the book. Lay down and then wake up late and probably wont ever read that book again.
It's like that with most books but.. Some books keep me up. I guess most books just don't interest me enough that I can't keep up.
Well yeah DOES READING MAKE YOU SLEEPY????

It depends on the book, to be honest I used to be quite a bookworm until the dreaded internet took over and I spend all my reading time on the internet, however I do make time for Harry Potter, yes I am 38 and love Harry Potter and I'm off to see the film end of the month!!!! When I used to read a lot it wasn't very often that a book made me sleepy, however college books when studying would always make me sleepy. I guess it's non-fiction that has the sleepy affect on me. When you are trying to understand college text books or doing studying for exams then I will get sleepy very quickly, because the boredom factor sets in, fast!

yes! im a 29yr old Harry Potter fan, i love to read, it keeps the brain ticking. i was up at our local HP stockists at midnoght before the release of each book...and yes i have them all!! lmao..sad i know. i think you do need to read something that interests you, i love to read before i go to bed so in answer to the origional question, yes i feel reading can make you sleepy but if its an intriguing book which i cant put down such as HP, then i find it hard to sleep as im so caught up in the story!!!

No reading does not make me sleepy but I enjoy reading. The problem at times is putting it down. I read during down time at work, during commercials on TV, and before I go to bed. I have caught myself reading and being on the computer at the same time. Do you think I like to read? Yes, I am an avid reader. I can read 2-3 books a weeks with an average of 500 page book. There are times, however, I wish it could make me sleepy.

i love to read and the only time i usually get to read is at night after my kids are in bed (or heading that way) and i usually find that at that point, reading does make me tired (perhaps it is because i already am). also, reading relaxes me, so that makes me tired too.

Depends on what books I am reading. If I like the content of the books then I wont feel drowsy, but if it is very boring, my eyes become blurry and about to close.lol!usually I will discontinue reading books which won't interest me.

For me, it would often depend on what type of book I am reading, as well as will the book keep me interested as well. I know that it also depends on what it going on and what time of day or night I try to read something as well. But personally most of my reading anymore comes from here via the Internet. I find if I start getting tired though when here, just take a break and go do something else and things will get better from there.

Reading does tend to put me to sleep. But I think that's because I rarely have time to pick up a book till I go to bed, at the end of a long day.
I *think* I'm going to spend some time reading, but in no time at all, I'm asleep, and with the light still on. It's not because the books are boring, or anything like that-- it's simply because I'm already ready to sleep. On the rare occasions when I do have time to read during the day, I do NOT tend to fall asleep.

Yes it certainly can, if I find the book boring and it doesn't "catch" my attention immediately then I will never get through it.

well it always depends on what you read. Me, I only read books that interest me. I consider the author. I love reading romance novel written by Judith Mcnaught and Julie Garwood. They are an amazing writer. I have read most of thier novels already. When I read their story I can't stop reading it till the end or until my eyes will give-up..

Reading does, often times, make me sleepy. But, there's a part of me that wonders if it just helps me relax enough to fall asleep. Most of the time, I decide to pick up a book is right when I am getting ready to go to bed. I will lie down and open the book and before I know it, my eyes are closing. I don't really read on a casual basis anywhere except my bed. I guess I'll have to experiment and bring a book to work and read on break to see if the "sleepy effect" will occur there too. (Maybe that's not such a good idea.)

I quite often fall asleep while I am reading and BANG, book lands on my face and wakes me!!! My wife thinks that it is hilarious...lol
I really do struggle to stay awake but only because I read to wind myself down in bed at night. I am not a night time person so I have trouble staying awake anyway.
Occasionally (very rarely) I read in bed in the morning and can read for hours without getting sleepy because I am wide awake in the mornings! It does not matter what I am reading and it frustrates me when I am reading a book that I am really enjoying but cannot get it read, because two pages into the night and I fall asleep!!!
My wife and daughter think that I am a slow reader but I am not, it is just that I only get to read when I am tired! :-)

I can't imagine not being able to stay awake while reading a book. I'm practically addicted to them. The only time I find myself falling asleep while reading is when I've been up for over 24 hours.
One thing you could try is having some tea or coffee and maybe a snake next to you while you read. I generally have something to drink close by when I read and that might make a difference. And I'd definitely check the books that you can stay awake for and find more like then.

Sometimes reading does make me sleepy. I love reading but I tend to do it right before bed It's a nice way to calm my mind and body down before going to sleep. This is why I love to read before I go to sleep.

I think it depends on which kind of the book. If it's a book which I am interested in, I won't feel sleepy. On the contrary, I will try to finish reading it. If it's a boring book like the text book, it will make me fall asleep soon:) So we always tease that if you are sleepless, you shall read the text book and it will be the best solution:)

It depends what books that I read. I remember When I was in school days, I need to read some revision books, it made me felt so sleepy. But when I was reading some novel, I never had sleepy at all, what I want is finish the novel as soon as possible to get to know the story to the end.

It depends on what Im reading, Some books do and others do not. You need to find something that is interesting to you and you will then be able to keep yourself awake. Or you could just read a little bit once you get in bed every night and let yourself fall asleep with the book.
