Malaysian has been asked to walk 10,000 steps a day as part of their healthy lifestyle regime. If you walk less tha 5,000,you're consider to have a sedentary lifestyle. How are you going to achieve it at your office? With the hot and humid weather during lunch time I don't think I can walk that much?Walk up stair,my office(factory) has only two floors.Walk at the corridor, won't that many steps in a day.Any better ideas?.

Hi henryjoe, the walking part is a good idea when the cooler weather makes it possible but this request is worded a little strangely. Who on earth wouldn't be bored by counting 10,000 steps, is this advice actually translated into a comparable distance. I know if I attempted to count to 10,000 whilst walking I'd be too easily distracted. So what is the actual distance recommended?

Actually this has been good health advice in the news in the US for about five years. You buy a pedometer to count the steps for you. I have done it, but after a while I forget to use it, or I misplace it. It is not government sponsored, but weight and fitness experts recommend it.

Hi HenryJoe, that is a long way to walk in a day. Who suggested this, your Government? Whilst excellent advice I would be interested if the people of Malaysia actually do try to follow this advice, I cannot see people of Western countries listening to such a Govenment suggestion, it would be seen as yet more interfering from the 'nanny state'.

We hear the same advice here in china, but in such hot summer very difficult for me. I might fulfil the assignment in other seasons. I appreciate my neighbors walking in groups in the neighborhood. And they feel good in cutting weight, and gaining leg strength. Maybe it is a matter of will, I admit.

My work sites vary, and so do my steps. I have taken as many as 18,000 in a day, and as few as 4,000. I do not know what I would do if I were so limited in where I could walk. I do need to be more consistent though, so I can be as healthy as your countrymen are.

if home is very near to where you work then you can walk from home to work and work to home.it will give you many many steps to fill that 10,000 steps.it also give you chance to be early in work than usual because you will prepare to work more early.after eating night time meal you can also walk around the neighborhood.it help in our digestion and it will also give you more steps.
we not have that kind of rule here in my country but i hear and watch it on tv.they say that it helps in keeping slim and i want to do that.i try to do that 10,000 steps but i not have the counter so i give up counting.hehehehe i just walk and walk and walk every time that i have time to walk.

I love Malaysia climate , living there for many years, it is perfect for outdoor activities like playing badminton, swimming , jogging etc. in early morning hour or late afternoon. I will say you don't even need to walk 10,000 or 5,000 steps, just play above game or do one of the exercises mentioned, you are on your way to good health. I do notice that many Malaysians are over weights, first they need to cut back on 'junk' food from fast food joints especially those Mc Donald, KTF etc.. then less on MSG infested Chinese food, try more on Nasi Lemak and Otak otak ..the local delicacies, then combination with healthy diet and exercise, i am sure my friend you will have good health waiting for you in the future.
