I was told by my neighbor it is better to cut internet connection during night, so that modem is not on loading all clock round. I would seek for confirmation from my friends on site if you disconnect your computer with internet during night?

My modem will be always connected with the internet and at is true as the time is going on, the speed of the net is going down. If I feels the internet speed is going down, then I will switch off my modem for about 5 minutes and then will on.After the the IP address in resolved, the speed will be as normal. Also, for us, it is not possible to disconnect it as we four will be working with the internet in most of the time alternatively.

Have never really thought about it... but lately I have been turning it off at night.. to save a bit of electricity and to "reboot" the connection the next morning. I only learned about that when I was having problems.. forget what they were.. but my ISP carrier mentioned I should shut it off every other week or so to let it reboot and clean things up.. something about it getting overloaded with "stuff" and that making my system connection slow down.

Thanks for joining. Yes, we have to clear the cookies regularly to help speed up the computer.

Yes, please do. Specially, if you are living in an area with rain. Once I got and expensive modem burnt due to lightning. Anyhow, unless you really have a need to be connected 24x7, why waste the power, bandwidth (even slightly), life span.

I always disconnect during the night. Or for that matter, any time I'm going to be away from the computer for anytime over an hour. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see any point in keeping a computer online when it's not needed. I read this tip once, that said you should make a habit of shutting down the computer totally to give it a chance to reset and clear out. I notice when I do that it gets rid of a whole lot of temporary internet files lol. Besides all that, I think it's important too for the life of the computer, as it lets it cool down.

Personally I have always wondered which is Best as I have heard conflicting stories for sure. I am one who leaves my Computer on all of the time unless I need to reset to do updates, add a New program or something like that. I do turn my Computer off if I am going out of town, or in case of storms just to protect myself as well.

My fiance and I share a laptop with his brother. The real owner is really his brother but he bought the laptop for him, anywys since there are three of us using it. the modem is usually on 24/7 and it only gets it rest when the 3 of us are alseep cause we all use the internet frequently. me being a member of mylot i get to use the laptop the most haha. the internet is only disconnected at around say 4am and will be turned on again at around 10am.

I dont always remember to do this but I am going to start. It is better for the computer, the environment and saves electricity as well. I think there are many good things you can do and shutting down the computer at night is one of them. I think there are many ways that you can save money but this is something that can be very helpful to you.

I didn't turn off my router for many weeks ago. Mostly always on. But I do this because I always use internet connection for bittorrent. No error happen to my internet and PC, just only high power consume. By the way, if sometimes, my internet down or I have weekend. I always shutdown all.

Hey, Yea I actually disconnect my computer from the Internet during the night time. Even we have a wireless router that we also turn off during the night. This saves electricity and also keeps things running in good order. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Of course I do. It's a waste of electricity if my external modem is on and I'm sleeping.. Unless I'm downloading a big file which will take hours to complete.. But if none, I'm turning it off to save electricity..

I dont turn my modem off at night. The last time I turned it off for a whole night was around two months ago I think. I usually reset the modem every 15 day or so or when I change the settings for my wireless. I dont think there is a major problem if you keep it on, but theres no harm in turning it off. ill try to remember to turn it off!
