Hi My lotters! i used to work in manchester @ Granda studios. it was a major attraction in the 80/90s until loss of profit and unfortunetly finally closed down in 1999. What a fabulous place this was!! i worked within the retail department, they had many different shops full of the Coronation street gifts, the U.F.O shop that sold wacky inflatable aliens etc!, then there was Madisons, situated on 'New York street' which was a replica set complete with a pink Cadillac!! Madisons was part of three shops: Madisons (Sold Mancester utd football gifts, tv gifts from various shows)/Laughing stock (sold:as the name suggests Jokes mainly Smiffys)/then finally Cadburys (which also had sooty - the puppet! gifts available there too!) Cadburys had every chocolate bar id ever tried and plenty i hadnt..this was the first place i got a 'yard of chocolate' it was a big stick of choc lovliness!!!! besides the new york set/shops, they also had the actual set off Moll Flanders which was shipped in and recreated, also Baker Street complete with Cafe (which sold delicious fresh baked potatoes..yum yum!!) and a gift shop next door that sold everythin Sherlock from the video series sets to a deer stalker hat!!! Other attractions included the Tour that took you around the make up rooms, set of Coronation street, Emmerdale Farm (or Emmerdale) and many more shows! you could have drink in the Replica Rovers Return Pub or even try Bettys infamous Hotpot!! there was also an arcade, A coronation street experince ride, The Motion Master and loads more fab things to do...it is definetly a huge part of my childhood, and teen yrs after i was lucky enough to work there...i would love to hear what anyone else thinks!!!!!! thanku!!!

Many years ago I went on a Granada studios tour with my aunt who lives just outside Manchester in Bolton and I can't remember if we got the tram from Radcliffe or got the 94 bus into Manchester itself, we both love Coronation Street, hence the visit, I remember having a wonderful time as we were shown around the studio and walking down Coronation Street and seeing the Rovers Return. I remember buying up lots of souvenirs and postcards of my favourite actors, I used to like Steve Macdonald's brother, Andy who left for Sheffield Uni in the soap. It was a wonderful experience and I would love to go again!

Hi Kinkill, at one time I used to live within easy distance of Manchester but never did go to the Granada studios and didn't even hear it was no more. I was actually under the impression that Coronation Street was actually filmed there and people were visiting the real set. If I'm right have they now moved the Corrie set to somewhere else? Or was it just a mock up?

hi thea! yes apparently it is filmed on the other side of Manchester, not sure where abouts! they still film the external takes on the actual street tho!, there was a rumour that they were planning to re - open the whole site, but it all fell through...such a shame i would go back and work for them in an instance!
