Study did by Linus Pauling, Ph.D. (chemistry) and his colleague in 1976 found that patients who were given supplemental ascorbate (10 grams/daily intravenously) lived, on the average, 300 days longer than their matched controls with better quality of life (measured from the time all patients were considered "untreatable").
Pauling conducted another study in 1978. This analysis broke out the improved survival times by cancer type. For each type of cancer there was an improvement in survival.

I am a cancer survivor - pancreatic cancer - stage 4 - this was diagnosed 7 years ago. I have undergone Whipple's procedure at that time and am minus a gall bladder, part of my pancreas and stomach and am none the worse - except that I have to watch out for the oily/greasy and spicy food.
Post surgery, I was too weak to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy and hence have not had those treatments.
I am more active and stronger than men 10 years younger than me and work and play a lot more than most people.

i could not agree more, there are invisible hand in medical world that whenever a cure/medicine is cannot be patterned (i.e. cannot make money) then it is suppressed. there are many herbs out there that can cure every imaginable diseases, but as they cannot pattern it, we ordinary people would not hear about it except from herbalists..
