Small Towns need Something for Youths

It has long been something I've thought about, since my own days as a youth of the small village where I have grown up for the better part of my life and the neighboring towns. There isn't anything for older children and teenagers to do. Sure they can take walks and bike although there have been accidents involving those riding a bike. Although we have Eldridge Park it doesn't provide something for everyone. It has a little kids playground and a small skate area and some people fish there. There's a carousel and now miniature boats, but its not always open either. Anything else costs quite a bit, even ten dollars around here can be a lot since there isn't that many jobs floating around for parents that pays more than minimum wage. I'm not entirely sure what the village and neighboring towns need, but something to occupy them, and maybe we might see less drug use in the area and more interest in other things. Weekends and Summers after all can be a real drag, especially any long vacations from school with little to do, since most do not even make enough to go on an extended fun trip and instead work that the time that they might have otherwise enjoyed with their children. I don't see to many clubs around, there is the 4-H, although that isn't for everyone and neither is scouts. I just wonder what children and teenagers would like to have to do, something they can do with their friends other than veg out or worse. We do have a movie theater, but even that can pall after awhile.

i see this is your first post on mylot. welcome!!! if a village had clubs and malls and other stuff like that, would it still be a village?? that's the beauty of a village...the scenery, the smell of nature, the freshness.it is priceless...i myself do not like to stay in a village for more time, because i want all the comforts of the city life.

Thank you for welcoming me... The stores and malls are in the next town. Only 15 minutes away... however it's not really that interesting and most business do not last long in it. Most of the youths just go their for the movie and the food court or the very small and expensive arcade... the prison however owns the woods around here so that no one can even go in their unless they want to face charges of trespassing. Although one week out of the year most of them at least have fun at the county fair, but I have to wonder about the other 51 weeks of the year.
