Strange Question Here About Ticks

Being that I have 4 dogs and 10 cats, we do have to keep frontline on our list of things needed or we'd be infested with fleas and ticks in our house and property so definitely, frontline is a must have however, I do try to make it stretch as much as I can by treating our furry friends every 6 weeks instead of every 4 weeks because it is very expensive. Now last night, we found a tick on one of our cats hubby got it off and rushed to throw it in the toilet to flush it down. I told him not to do that because I was told that ticks don't drown but to burn it with a lighter or match to kill it so he did.
Now my question is this, am I right about that? Or can ticks drown? I was told that they don't or can't so, which is true? I'm going to do some research of my own and hope you will too and then tell me your findings for I am curious. Ticks are so gross and wish we could get rid of them once and for all.... and um, may I add fleas to that list too? lol

I am facing the same problem with my doggies. I have two dogs and they are being treated by the vet who comes around once in two months. But the jabs are not that too effective as only after a week of treatment, the ticks have already found their comforts in their furs. It gives me additional job picking up the ticks and killing them by squeezing them to the floor. I have never flush ticks down the loo but it might be true they don't perish in water as I have seen the ticks dropped in my dogs drinking water still very much alive.

Maybe you should get some frontline for your little furry friends too? It does work a great for mine but my cats are the ones who get them from other areas and bring them back into their own yard and our house and sometimes they find their way on us too. Squashing them to the floor doesn't always kill them because they're tough little buggers but burning them does do the trick right well! lol

When Misty had ticks we burned them. Got them with a paper towel or toilet paper (whatever was at hand) and finally made a burning place (Empty can). At that time I always had matches nearby because I was happy enough to be a smoker. Now that I quit for economic treasons I donç´t have the ciggies but I don´t see the money either.
Lola hasn´t had ticks yet. But I seem to remember ticks come out insummer and we are in winter here.

You're doing the correct thing by burning the ticks. It's the same method that I use for it's a sure thing that they do die. Ticks start coming back out in the spring time and all throughout the summer and fall. They don't die off until the first or second frost.

its very lovely to hear that you have 10 cats and 4 dogs as pets , its too big ,don't you think its very lovely to have these creature in the home . ok . let start with the ticks, its very sad that your pets are suffering from ticks , so just get some medicative soaps or powders which is being used in this period and regarding ticks , as you find these dirty things just put them in a cup of kerosene to kill them ,,ok ..

Trust me, I didn't set out to have so many furry friends but it's how life came to be and I certainly can't turn them away. If a cat or a dog comes my way, I can't send them away for all they're asking for is some food, fresh water and some love which I have all of that to give. As for treating them for ticks, I use frontline on my furry friends as well as Eliminator for our yard which kills them all but the cats roam outside of our yard and pick up the fleas and ticks from elsewhere and bring them home but the frontline kills them before too long.
