Do you feel younger or older than you actually are?

My 21st birthday is approaching on July 24, and it has made me stop and think..."That's it?" I've always felt like I should be older than I am. Not in terms of having fun with life, and it's not like I feel bad physically. I just feel more mature and past the "immature youth" stage of my life...and I've felt this way since I was about ten years old. So I will be 21...but I really feel like I should be turning 30. My father is the opposite for his age. He'll be 50 next year, but he still finds humor out of life, is physically active, happy, and is a hard-worker...both him and I feel he is younger than his true age. Do you feel younger or older than the age you actually are? Why or why not?

Happy Belated Birthday I'm 23... but i don't feel age at all, in some aspects i'm older then my actual age, in others i'm younger. i've seen much more of life them most older people so in that way i'm much older. At the same time i like acting like a kid sometimes, didn't have enough of childness when i was a child so i'm trying to make up for it now... Everyone tells me i look younger then my age too, and i know i do. i look as if i were 16, so it's hard sometimes to get people to take me seriously...

Hi,Lovinglife....Apparently, you matured very early in life, which is certainly not a bad thing. Some kids today don't know when it's time to grow up. But, life is very ironic at times, and us humans can be very fickle...when we are young we always want to grow up quickly, so we are treated as adults and can do adult things. However, when we do become that adult, we often act like a bunch of kids, and act childish. It's as if adulthood has given us permission to act anyway we want. And then when you become "OLD-ER" (not old), but "OLD-ER", we want so much to become a kid again - to live the fun, simple, and no pressure life. I don't think we are ever satisfied with whatever age we are. As for me...My body often feels the age of a 40 year old, my mind - a 60 year old, and my heart - a 10 year old. As long as we are a kid at heart, and find pleasure in the simple things, aren't afraid to have fun in life, take chances, and stop and smell the roses, life can be enjoyable. I know I'm getting OLD-ER, but I don't want to think like an old person. I want to remain a child in my heart.

I couldn't have said it better. :) We're always growing older physically...but we can stay young in other areas. It's good to hear you are still a child at heart.

I am 68 and there are times that I don't feel a day over 67. LOL Seriously in my mind and the way I think I do not feel any older than when I was 50. So I try to act like it and my body says, hay fool what are you doing to me. LOL Sounds bad doesn't it. Well I am very fortunate in that, for the most part, I am pretty healthy for my age. Not a lot I can't do as long as I am reasonable about it. I have noticed however that that feeling is changing so I think I just need to do more. When you reach my age my dear you will have completely forgotten what it was like to be 21. Except that "IT IS GOOD TO BE YOUNG"! Please take advantage of it now because it goes all to fast.

It's amazing how fast it DOES go...I remember people telling me in middle school that before I knew it, high school would be over. I don't even remember high school! It went THAT fast! It is wonderful to be young...and I want to continue to have a young mind set and focus on the beauty in life so I can feel young later as well. I am glad you still feel good for your age. You sound like you are still enjoying life and taking care of yourself, and that's the way to go! :)

I just celebrated my 29'th birthday, which put me in that whole mindset of "oh my god, i am going to be turning thirty soon". It has really weirded me out. It is strange, for the longest time i haven't felt my age adding up on me, but over the past few years, every so often i will glance in the mirror and think "Gosh, i am really starting to LOOK older". It is so strange how inside you head you have this vision of yourself. For the longest time that vision of myself was me at age 18. For many years i didn't really change much physicly, i looked the same. Now all of a sudden i am starting to see signs of aging. Granted they are slight signs, but it is still shock to one's system! If we were to go by physical looks, just going by what people who don't know me would guess my age at, i could still get away with bieng in my early 20's. If we are judging by how old one FEELS.....somedays i feel as i did when i was 18, young, energetic and full of life, and others i feel like i could be in my 50's! with all of lifes aches and pains and stresses accumulating and acting on my body and mind.

If I were to guess your age just by your picture, I'd guess about 24. You were right on about that! When you realize that you are growing older there is definitely that "Wow...this is weird" feeling. When I logged onto myLot today, my profile already says I'm 21! But just looking at that made me get a pang in my gut...on one side I can't believe I'll be 21...on the other, I can't believe I'm not getting ready to celebrate my 30th birthday instead of my 21st. Of course, the third thought running through my head was "Why is myLot lying about my age and where do I fix it?" Haha...

Hahaha, a one year anniversary of your 29th. That really made me laugh. I'll have to tell my dad about that one, since he'll be 50 next year! It said 21 on my profile, and I went to see if I had put in the wrong birth date, but it was right. For some reason it updates a few days early. It still says 21, so I guess I'll believe it! :)

No kidding! I am a "newbie" and when i started my account a week ago or so, it was still a couple days before my birthday, but when i was messing around with my profile, it listed my age as 29....i thought maybe i had put my birthdate in wrong or something. I kept going...geez! i am not 29 for another couple days! what happens when i turn 29 officially? is mylot going to say i am 30? i am not ready to be 30 yet! Infact i vowed that i am not going to turn 30 *lol*....instead of having a 30th birthday party, i am going to host a one year anniversary of my 29th birthday!

Im 21 and I feel I never changed at all. I am the same person from the very beginning. When people asking bout my age, they was shocked that I am 21. They thought I am still in high school or College. Maybe because I acted the same way as before and I never change. In terms of being mature I take responsibilities like every other person with the same age, but the thing is I worked with those problems with high spirit and in God's faith. Oh HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! GOD IS LOVE~

I am going to be 46 years old this year and I really do not feel like it. I think that it depends on your outlook and how you view things. I am healthy and enjoy learning new things. I feel like there are always things to look forward to. That is not to say that life cannot get boring sometimes; it does. However, finding new interests, appreciating what you have, and knowing that each day will bring new experiences and challenges will help. I love to laugh! Laughter and finding humor in life is extremely important!

I'm like your father except that I'm about 14 years older than he is. Apart from a few aches and pains I never feel that I'm the age that I am and other people, people who don't know me and have no reason to flatter me, have often thought that I'm anything up to 10 years younger than I actually am. So, I not only feel younger than I actually am, I look younger as well. It's one of the ironys of life that when people are young, they spend all there time wishing that they were older and trying to look older, but then when they do get older, it's the opposite and they are all wishing to be younger and to look younger.

happy 21st birthday in advance loving. i turned 39 last july 10 and i do feel younger at times and there are times that i felt older. it depends on what mood and what problem i am facing. but of course i would like to feel always young but sometimes i need to take actions and feel my age. i have four teens and i am a single mom that makes me feel older at times but sorrounded by teens makes me feel young as well.

Thank you! I would think that having four teens would have that effect on you...makes you realize you aren't that age anymore, yet they keep you young. Thanks for your response!

Hey, Well I actually feel that I am younger than I actually am, for some reason. I don't know why, but I still feel like I am a child inside, and sometimes I also still act like a child, it is weird, but I like it! Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I look younger than my actual age. When people see me beside my youngest sister, they thought i am the younger one. My disposition in life is to learn to live and be happy with what I have now. If I desires something which I have no enough resources. It will surely makes me look old. I adopted easily to any environment and people. I do not like to think of sad, worries and too much problems. Thinking of them all over and over again will make you old past. problem is already part of every people life which nobody could escape. All we have to do is to learn to live with it and find beauty in simplicity mix with meditation to calm us. Also, I do lot of exercises, mind exercises and eat healthy food. happy birthday to you...

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! You said something that I think is key...worries and stress age you past your years. Both young and old alike need to focus on the good things rather than the bad or the "inconveniences." Keeping your mind active is also a great thing to do...good for you! :)

well i feel way older than i am. i feel very mature for my age. i've always feel more comfortable with adults. and i feel like we have more in common. and the kids my age are just so immature and it just surprises me. they play too much don't take anything seriously and never think about consquences. and they always get a slap on the hand in my school. i just can't stand it thats why i can't wait to grow up. but i'm a little scared of what my future might hold.

When you mentioned you feel more comfortable with adults, I'm reminded of myself before my teens. I would watch kids being dramatic and immature and know that I was just past all of it. You're right...most don't think of consequences...there are people my age that, because they don't think of what might happen, have either started to have kids themselves already or run into trouble with the law. It's a shame...especially since I've known better since middle school, and it sounds you have, too. I felt the same way about my future...I realized I was more mature than most but the future still worried me. Let me tell you that because you are the way you are, your future has a lot of potential. You are growing in intelligence and in mental and emotional terms FAR quicker than most people your age...it gives you an advantage. Use it. Don't worry about your future...you have a better chance of making it work, and with motivation and confidence, you can do that. :)

Dear LovingLife, So happy that you are 21 now. Chinese believes at 21, you are given the full licence / key to live your life in freedom. That's why Chinese parents will give a gold 'key' shaped pendant to their children on their 21st birthday to symbolises that they are given the key to freedom! So, they must take full charge and responsibilities of their lifes..be mature in their decision making! I personally think you should live and enjoy like your are always 18, be active and dress up like 21 but be wise and matured like 28... Then you have the best of all... for myself, I alway laugh and live life to the fullest... I think I am always 21 when I am with my mum, but I will be my age when I am with my son... All the best and do drop by my topic when you are online. Thanks for your support, cheers!

I always feel older in a group of girls and I have a few friends that are very immature. Now dating an older man just depends...Everyone of us fall in love and when it comes to age....we must take full responsabilty and make that call. If a man is older or younger is your choice. If you love someone that is older and you feel free in the place you put yourself in (the relationship) than good for you. Just remember us girls mature must faster than men, so you very well could seem like a 30 something yr old to him. Good Luck....Im pulling for u.

I know I act younger than I actually am but when I need to I act older than I am. I like acting like a kid thought. Why grow up when you can have fun. Maybe once I turn 21 I'll finally be grown up but until then I'm just going to have fun.

I feel younger than I actually am. I just turned 19 and I still can't drive, don't have a job, still love dolls, and I'm watching cartoons right now. It's pretty selfish of me but I don't want to grow any older. I'm scared of the future and scared of independence. I haven't developed the right work ethic and social skills.

A few years ago I would have said I felt older than I was. I've always felt smarter and more mature than my peers and everyone would always mistake me for an adult. But now that I've graduated and have no idea what I'm doing, things switched around on me. I'm the oldest child in my family so I don't really have an older sibling to look up to, and because of that, I don't really know how to get out in the world. I was kind of closed up in a figurative box most of my life. So now, people are constantly telling me I need to grow up and be more mature, etc. I guess I caught up to my own age at one point and stopped there when I should have kept going. Sometimes I wonder if I'm only acting and feeling younger than I really am because that's how everyone treats me now.
