Here my kids are taught to read via Phonics. And they using this way, kids learn to read faster and more easily.. And even i felt its a lot better way, to read with sounds..
How did you learned as akid, and how are your kids learning to read now???..,
Any good sites for phonics to share...

In oriental countries, the phonetic method still dominates, but when it comes to learning english, we are told that the mechanical speed of the speaking organ far lag behind that of the brain. Therefore, silent reading and eye span training are highly encouraged to enhance the so called reading skills, like skimming and scanning.
It is true these skills help to raise scores in taking exams, but fun, as an important element of reading, is totally lost.

Hi nehaagra, I learnt to read phonetically when I was a child and then teaching methods changed and it was dropped in many schools as a way of teaching. I knew that they no longer used this method when I had my son so I taught him to read early on before he started school, using phonetics. My son took to the concept very quickly and was reading well before he was four and is still an avid reader. I believe it is definitely the best way for a child to learn.
