Did you use meds during your labor? What kind did you use? Were they good? At what point in your labor did you decide to get them if you did? If you didnt use any, what were your reasons for not doing so?

I had my oldest daughter with no pain meds or anything. My labor went way too quick for anything. My middle daughter I did all natural as well. With my youngest who I just had almost 2 weeks ago I wanted all natrual but they ended up giving me a muscle relaxer which didnt do anything at all! I had all my girls natural because that is how I believe mother nature intended it to be. Just my own personal opinion. If I have any other children in the future I plan on having them all natural as well hopefully with out any meds or shots of any kind.

i had 4 of my children without any pain meds and the labor was long when i was in labor with my oldest who is now 11 it was 1 week and 11 in a half hour of pain without mends just the way i wanted it , my 2nd son who will be 7 next month i was only in labor with him for 4 hours the pain was not that bad but again no meds the only problem i had when i was in labor with him is when it was time to push i had a athma attack so i could not push my hubby had to push on my belly to help get him out. my 3rd son who will be 4 in sept i was in labor with him the longest 2 weeks 3 days of pure pain but again i had no pain meds and then when i was pushing my lip down there swelled up so we had to wait to see if it would go down because i refuse to have any meds so luckley everything turned out ok and with my daughter who is 1 i was not in labor long with her and of corse no pain meds just the way i wanted all 4 times because a needle in my back will parolize me and that i was not willing to let happen so i delt with the pain plus i did not want any thing because i wanted to feel everything .

With my 2 children, I had an epidural which I like because my threshold for pain is too little. But with my 3rd one, no medication, no nothing because I went to the hospital too late already, 8 cm dilated. My 2 older children were induced. They were born way past their due date. And my 3rd, she was born 2 weeks early, so I was not expecting it and I never experience labor pains before. After no pain meds and delivering my 3rd child, I vowed never to have one again. It was just way tooooooooooo painful. Everytime, I think of it, I shudder. But after all that pain, it was worth it to hold my baby at last.

I didn't use meds with either of my children my labor was not that bad. The labor nurse told me it is alot easier on the baby during birth too if you don't use meds. I know some people really have bad pains during labor though and meds can't be helped have a great day.

Hi Daisiesndots, I didn't decide whilst in labour to use pain meds, I think I probably checked out that they were going to be available before I decided to get pregnant, I was a bit squeamish about the whole delivery business and am the sort of person who won't open my mouth at the dentist until they give me an injection. From the second I checked into the hospital I was begging for pethadine which I'd been given about 2 months before with early contractions. They said too early. Gas and air was a joke, when's the pethadine coming. The pool thing they had was quite handy but how long does it take to get hold of some pethadine in here. 12 hours actually. Finally got the pethadine, wonderful stuff, so where's the epidural now, lets have the lot. Finally got the epidural too. 24 hours from start to finish for a baby to arrive. Who would want to do that naturally? Not me for sure.
