Out of all of the types of movies, horror is my absolute favorite. Thinking about some of the past best horror flicks, I would include Alien, the original Friday the 13th and Halloween movies, the classic Frankenstein, Dracula, etc. I enjoyed some of the remakes of old horror films such as "The Thing," "Godzilla," etc. I have not seen any really good horror movies recently. There are plenty of horror flicks out there, and I do watch them, but they lack a really good story line or just don't seem to grab you the way Alien did when it was released. That movie was "fresh." Now they all seem to follow along after one another and nothing is really new or novel. If you've seen any recent really good horror films, let me know. I am dying to see one!

I have the same problem. My man and I love horror movies, but they just don't make them the same anymore. The best ones we have watched recently are the new remake of Friday the 13th. Rob Zombie did an amazing job. He did a great job on the Halloween remake as well. Watch for H2 to come out in theatres later this year. We also just watched The Unborn, not super scary, but a well done movie with really good graphics, Michael Bay of the Transformers helped produce it, so it is worth watching. Good luck on your Horror Quest!!

I liked the grudge and I also liked dark water. That was a good movie. There are also some really good things that are out like the ring and things like that. I am not into slasher type horror films but something like the "Silence of the Lambs" that was I think based on truth. I think the scarciest ones have some truth to them.

I like Sixth Sense and The Others. They gave me goosebumps. I also enjoyed being horrified by Amytiville (excuse the spelling) Horror. Other than that, I don't think horror movies nowadays give good story lines. They should make quality movies, and not just gross-out movies.

Horror is one of my favorite types of movies to watch also. I don't know if you will like the movies that I like though. I completely agree with you that a lot of horror movies lack a good story line. I don't like movies to just be a bunch of gore, that to me is not scary. I like horror movies to have a good storyline and be scary at the same time, it needs a good story behind the movie.
I'm not sure if you will like the same movies as me so don't hold this against me.
I will list a few though:
An American Haunting
The Strangers (while I admit, the story could have been better it scared me)
The Uninvited
I rented the haunting in Connecticut but I haven't watched it yet.

To me horror movies are not really frightening, especially when one thinks about some of them being extremely impossible to even be realistic. That's why I would prefer Psychological Thrillers that have some if not an entire basis in reality. Although you are in my estimation correct in that a lot of today's horror flicks seem to be missing an important element... a gripping plot that makes sense. I don't really know how some of them even make it on to film. I enjoyed Restraint, although I wish it had went more into depth with what was really going on, but that's more of a Psychological Thriller.

Hello sjward2009 this is checkmail and often do watch some horror movies, there must be some frightening experience on movies.Though I watch this scary movies as they are available on my television. The serious horror movies just are good enough to get the shock of unreal world, but i also watch the funny scary movies, which are with enoguh senseless ideas. The alliens movies are of sci-tech and not horror flick.Basicaly after watching the horror movie for more number of times it just gets borred to watch it again.

I also love watching horror movies, and i agree that most horror films now are just following existing story lines mostly from Japanese or Korean Horror films. That's based on my opinion, especially when the movie "The Ring" was introduced. Since it created a sort of cling on the public, every other movie that were released after that somehow follow the same feel.
