I am considering a full-time career in Science. I wanted to know how many of the mylotters were scientists? I am finding it tough right now to survive. Is it a very tough struggle to be an actual scientist and have your own lab and grants?

It depends what branch of science you want to go into?
I am an environmental chemist - when I was training there were few jobs in the field as it was very much in it's infancy... But now well I am one of the trainers! I teach high school general science and college + grad chemistry and environmental chemistry...
For me this is a good compromise, as I asm still learning science and passing on my love of the subject.
I believe that the hot area at the moment is nanotechnology.

I am a scientist through and through - it still fascinates me as much now as when I was in school as a student myself... I am certainly a Chemist rather than a Biologist though as I never got the "icky" stuff!
Good luck with the PhD... If only there had been more people willing to do this 15yrs ago my uncle may still be alive!
I think it is criminal the way the governments are "dumbing down" science and cutting the funding... where do they think all the tecnological break throughs come from... someones back yard?
