I haven't had the time logging in to my lot these days because eight-year-old daughter had a urinary tract infection (UTI) and at the same time tonsillitis. She had very high fever and experience chills at night last Tuesday. We had to take take her to the doctor, who had to prescribe a dosage of cefixime suspension, a kind of anti-biotic to treat both the UTI and tonsillitis. Although, her tonsillitis was cured by gargling warm water and salt, she is still taking her anti-biotic for her UTI. How about you my fellow mothers? Have you had an experience like this? What have yo done to prevent this from happening again? Please share some of your insights. Thanks and have a nice day.

Hi there gingerale!Ü I am not a mother yet but i do know someone with UTI. I used to have duties in government hospital and i get to take care of patients with UTI. It's important that all antibiotics are taken as prescribed. Antibiotics should not be discontinued before the full course of antibiotic treatment is complete. Symptoms may disappear soon after beginning antibiotic treatment. However, if antibiotics are quit early the infection may still be present and recur. You can also use alternative treatments like Cranberry juice because it often helps to reduce frequency of bladder infections - cranberry herbal supplements are available over-the-counter and many women find they work amazingly quickly when an UTI has occurred, however, a physician's diagnosis is still necessary even if cranberry juice or herbals reduce pain or symptoms. Some doctors recommend taking 500 IU Vitamin C daily as soon as you notice any sign of UTI to lessen the severity of your infection. Hope your daughter will be better soon!

thanks koalapenguin. I will really complete her treatment. She is now in school and although she lost a little weight because she only ate little because of her fever, she is quite fine. I'm just glad she is cooperating and won't give me a hard time when I administer her medicine. Thanks again.
