To be honest, the price you might pay for a laptop varies depending on what you want for it as well as the brand you want. I don't know much about MAC because I've never had one, but I can tell you about PC. You can get an ok PC for about $600 through Dell (probably several others, too, but Dell is the one I know). That would be something that is the bare minimum, it'll get you through, but it's not anything that would be great to have. My laptop cost me $1,200 including tax (I think it was $1,100 before taxes). This is a Dell Inspiron 1525 with 4G RAM and maxing out the available features. I also got Word and Norton on the computer with a few other things. It works well for me and I can do all sorts of things on it, including it running well to handle my computer programming homework. the only downside is that I can't play many video games, like Sims, because my computer can't handle the graphics. The graphics card isn't built to handle it. On the other hand, my husband just ordered his computer and that cost us $1,800. His computer maxed out memory and such, too, but it also has a graphics card that's suitable to play most games, including Sims, because he's a big gamer. If you're a gamer and money isn't much of an issue, though, you could always go with Alien computers. They're really good gaming computers, but they start at $1,200 with the bare minimum. :)

Most laptop nowadays are quite reasonable in price, compared to last time when laptops are scarce in sales. I think a reasonable price would be 1.3k or you can get those for $400-$500+, but the memory is not that much as compared to a slightly expensive one with a good memory storage. More megabytes for sure.
