Is the mind the source of all disease?

An old Japanese proverb says "The mind is the source of all disease" and many findings of modern science appear to confirm this. When a person is in mental stress such as worry or anxiety, the autonomic nervous system and endocrine system begin to malfunction. The power to resist disease is also diminished by excessive stress and various symptoms and diseases occur and the person is caught in a vicious circle. Is the mind really the source of all disease? What are your thoughts?

I don't think the mind is the source, I do think the mind allows disease to enter the body. People with very strict mind control can consciously control all bodily functions. Unfortunately very few of us have this control.

Hi savypat, Thank you for commenting. When you say that the mind allows disease to enter the body, aren't you implying that it has a choice in the matter? Blessings.

Of course it does, you learn in Psychic 101 that humans never do anything without a benefit. Even if it's just to keep digging the hole they are already comfortable in.

Hello Pose. I think that it is somewhat true that the mind is the source of all diseases. The reason why it can be so is that anxiety and worry function a lot to our health. If we always try our best to live happily without mental stress conquering us, it will be a different story. I always believe that a healthy mind works a lot in maintaining our good healthy besides doing a lot of exercises. Dear Pose, I wish you all the best.

Hi williamjisir, Thank you for your response and the good wishes. I have seen much of this in my lifetime and believe it to be true. Observing those around us, some who spend their lives worrying, and others who are pleasant and expect the best can teach us a lot about such things. Blessings.

Ummm, yes could be, you know. After all the mind is the place were we are most emotional with our decisions and analysis of a lot many things. To most people around, the brain may say something else, but they love to listen to their heart or mind (incl. me). also, there are times when we feel alone or we want to be left alone…in such times, the mind is our only friend or enemy (whichever way you see it)…like a ruminating cow, we go on pondering over the same thing till it either drives us crazy or forces us to take wrong decisions, just because we are too confused and tired to continue and would like to arrive at a conclusion.

It's written by Dr. Joseph Murphy. I think that the hardest part is aplying the things written in the book and turning them into a habit, because almost all of us think "destructively".

Hello pose. I say that the source of all diseases is worry. According to famous Mayo brothers, the cause of nervous troubles are the negative feelings such as anxiety, fear, depression, and others. Accordingly, Plato stated that "the greatest mistake physicians make is that they attempt to cure the body without attempting to cure the mind; yet the mind and body are one and should not be treated separately."

Hi France, Thank you for your response. I am in complete agreement with the Mayo brothers, we must treat the whole person. I'm firmly convinced that our thoughts, and the fears instilled in us from day 1 have a great deal to do with our health. Blessings.

Yeah ,I agree with you that mind is the source of all diseases.Ifwe are in worry ,then the stress comes to our mind, this inturn brings the changes in our whole body,in our nervous systm and in our immune system.Due to the worries and mental pressure ,sone hormonal or different un-explanable changes occur in our body and this inturn affects our nervous system.Since ,nervous system is the engine of the body,so any symptoms in it lead to the changes in the whole body fluids and the whole body tends to behave differently which inturn leads to the diseases or hormonal imbalances which is not really good for health. happy mylotting
