Do you know about illegal modification of home electric metre? I just want to know what is the penalty and how much will we pay for the fine, will we go to jail?
Now, how TNB handle this? Do they send an officer over to your house for inspection. Do they still use uniform or just plain cloth.
Please help, my friend just lost RM1,500 paying this guy.

Hi chi2nasrin,
It is never a good idea to modify your electric meter more so if that is illegal. It is like stealing.
My uncle had to paid a fine of RM2000 because his meter has been tempered. He never admit to do it but once the TNB men (uniformed) go there to do inspection, they found something that is not suppose be there. Some kind of wire have been attach to that meter and because of that his meter hardly move or only with a slower scale.
Once they found any strange thing in the meter, you will never win the case. Like it or not you have to pay the fine or your meter will be removed. That's mean no electricity for you.
If I am not mistake, the fine is not more then RM5000 and/or jail term (I can't remember how long).
If you have any suspicious about someone claim that they are from TNB, it is advisable to call the hotline (look at the bill) to confirm it. There are a lot of people try to cheating others by claiming they are from certain agencies. They even use the fake uniform and card.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

okey, so no police report for that guy but he came with just the pass and not with TNB uniform. Scary juga. He asked for RM1,500 'coffee money' and got it through his bank account.
Seeing that the fine is more than that then I guess paying him is better than lock-up. Thank you very much, you always give the best answer. :-) peace!

I think your friend had been conned. Only the meter reader boy from TNB will know it and they will came to your house in uniform with TNB card and machine to issue bill. If he suspect anything wrong, he will inform the his supervisor and the next day you will get the new bill with unimaginable amount. That is happen to my uncle. When you made an inquire with the TNB, they will told you the your meter had been temper. And it is your fault either you know your meter been temper or not.

So what should be done now? Should he take any action to that guy who claimed that he was from TNB? He has the guy phone number and bank account and the bank in slip as proof that he deposited the RM1,500.
But then again if he makes a complain to TNB or police, it will only comes back to him because he did temper with his metre after all. What do you think of this?

Well, there is a legal trick to save ur usage of electricity.
Just simply use the electric saver that u can purchase at any store.
Its help u to save up to 30% of usage.
I can recommend some of the product, coz i'm using it now.
Last 2 moth my office bills is RM900++.
After use the electric saver, my electric bill reduce to RM600++
And tell ur friend to make it legal back. Simple, i can ask my friend to do it.
And cost it about RM500. Act fast!

Hmm, I will ask my friend first. That guy he paid, said that the tempered meter will be left as it is now because he already gave RM1,500. I think maybe it is still a good idea to ask him to undo whatever he had done to the electric meter right? So that there will be no other problem in the time to come.

It is never a good idea to tamper with the electric meter. There is a reason why they are there and tampering would result in electricity being stolen.
